Early Childhood Education - Norfolk, Department of Early Learning and Title I, Norfolk Public Schools

Manages all aspects of NPS' participation in the federal Title I program. Additionally, the Office of Early Learning and title I also oversees several preschool programs for Norfolk Public Schools, including programs for three and four-year-old scholars. PREKINDERGARTEN PROGRAM: Provides a FREE, full-day, high-quality instructional program for preschool aged students identified as at risk for early academic challenges. There are 21 Title I classes for three-year-olds and 90 classes for 4-year-olds located throughout the school division and the city of Norfolk. TITLE 1 The purpose of this program is to provide local education agencies supplemental federal funds to assist schools with high percentages of economically disadvantaged students. This assistance is aimed at helping students reach proficiency on state academic achievement standards.

New River Community Action Head Start’s mission is to build on the unique strengths of children and families through positive engagement, health education, and a quality Pre-Kindergarten experience. CLASSROOM-BASED: PART-DAY AND FULL-DAY OPTIONS. Serves 3-5-year-old children Full day: five days a week from August to May. Part day: four days a week, Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., August to May.
