The Children's Museum Family Engagement team supports caregivers through partnerships in the community as well as activities in the museums. The team focuses on core skills for school readiness using The Basics, advocates for children with disabilities and supports caregivers with information and strategies about learning through play. The act of play is essential to a child's development, contributing to their cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being. With plenty of print and digital resources, along with museum-based learning experiences, The Children's Museum Family Engagement programs seek to provide learning for the whole family, engaging all caregivers in the power of play.

This program provides preschool services, day care services, early and late care, various related programs/workshops, and after school care. The preschool has been accredited by NAEYC.

The Randolph College Nursery School, located on Randolph's campus, offers a preschool curriculum open to ages 3-5.

Offers developmental childcare for low income working families who would otherwise not be able to afford care for their children while they work, train or pursue an education.

Agape Early Learning Center is a faith-based program that operates 12 months per year. Enrollment is open to the general public, serving children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Services Provided: preschool, infant care, before-school and after-school care, part-time and drop-in care.

Preschool curriculum promotes kindergarten readiness through language, literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, world languages, art, music, creative movement, dramatic play, and technology. Programing is enhanced by project-based learning, an outside discovery center, and Tucker Signing Strategies for reading.

Orange County Head Start & Pre-K Programs are designed to provide preschool experiences for children, including children with special needs. The program is available for children birth to five years of age and includes support services for families. Limited transportation may be available. There is no cost to families for participation.

The primary goal of the program is to provide early childhood education and intensive mental health treatment to children. In addition, SCAN works with caregivers to empower them to help reduce the long-term effects of traumatic abuse and neglect for children. SCAN work to integrate children into mainstream classroom settings so that they are able to be successful in school.

Manages all aspects of NPS' participation in the federal Title I program. Additionally, the Office of Early Learning and title I also oversees several preschool programs for Norfolk Public Schools, including programs for three and four-year-old scholars. PREKINDERGARTEN PROGRAM: Provides a FREE, full-day, high-quality instructional program for preschool aged students identified as at risk for early academic challenges. There are 21 Title I classes for three-year-olds and 90 classes for 4-year-olds located throughout the school division and the city of Norfolk. TITLE 1 The purpose of this program is to provide local education agencies supplemental federal funds to assist schools with high percentages of economically disadvantaged students. This assistance is aimed at helping students reach proficiency on state academic achievement standards.

Head Start is a federally funded Pre-Kindergarten program which provides low-income children ages three to five years with a variety of experiences to help them develop socially, cognitively, physically, and emotionally. Because Head Start regards the parent as the most important teacher in a child’s life, we involve parents as much as possible in every aspect of the program. New River Community Action Head Start’s mission is to build on the unique strengths of children and families through positive engagement, health education, and a quality Pre-Kindergarten experience. CLASSROOM-BASED: PART-DAY AND FULL-DAY OPTIONS. Serves 3-5-year-old children Full day: five days a week from August to May. Part day: four days a week, Tuesday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., August to May.

MCCS Quantico's CDCs are accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). All classrooms accommodate children according to their developmental age and any special needs. Two meals and one snack are provided daily.

ELC provides an enriching environment, with special emphasis on social-emotional development along with an evidence-based curriculum to ensure that children are prepared to learn when they enter Kindergarten.

Preschool program runs concurrent with the Augusta County school calendar and is a full day program, 5 days a week except for one Friday of each month. This Friday is used for screenings, teacher trainings and home visits. Assessments for math and literacy are completed three times throughout the year to track students' progress and ensure preparedness for kindergarten.
