The IRS-certified volunteers who provide tax counseling are often retired individuals associated with non-profit organizations that receive grants from the IRS.

Earned Income Tax Credit - Glen Allen, Virginia Department of Social Services

EITC is a federal tax credit for low to middle income working individuals and families. If you qualify for EITC, you also qualify to have your taxes prepared for free at one of many free tax preparation sites including many local social service offices. Contact VDSS via phone (dial 2-1-1) or www.getyourrefund.org/en/vita_providers to find the tax preparation site closest to you. The EITC has no effect on certain welfare benefits. In most cases, EITC payments will not be used to determine eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), SNAP, low-income housing, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) payments.
