VSDB is both a school and a state agency that provides educational services to students ages 2-22 within the Commonwealth of Virginia, who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Blind/Visually Impaired, DeafBlind, and deaf or blind with additional disabilities. A student may enroll as either a day or residential student. Residential students attend VSDB during the week for school and return home to their families every weekend. Students attending VSDB are served through special education services and have an Individual Education Program (IEP). VSDB is no cost to public school districts or to families. VSDB offers all diploma options and follows all state educational regulations for special education services, including state assessment options for the Standards of Learning as prescribed by each student's IEP. VSDB is a fully accessible educational environment that utilizes specially designed instruction and where learning extends beyond the classroom into the Residential Program. Students who attend VSDB have the opportunity to be leaders, participate in sports, learn in a fully accessible educational setting, develop social skills through peer interactions, and develop independent living and workforce skills that support a successful transition after graduation. In consideration for admission, students may attend VSDB for the TEMP program as an opportunity to experience VSDB's services and programs.

Provides the following Environmental Health Services: Complaints Environmental Health documents and investigates residents' complaints about environmental health problems, including reports of food and waterborne disease, mosquito problems, improper sewage disposal, and other public health issues. Food Services Local health department staff inspect and issue required permits to such food service establishments as school cafeterias, restaurants, food stands at community events, camps, day care centers, B&B's, and migrant camps. They work with those who provide prepared food to the public to help assure that food is wholesome and healthy. The local health department is responsible for working with local dairies to assure a healthy product, free of disease. This is done through regular inspections and ongoing input into dairy operations. Drinking Water Environmental health staff provides assistance to property owners who have or desire to have private wells on their property. They assist with required activities and issue, upon proper documentation and payment of fees, permits for private on-site wells. Each county health department maintains records on properties with private on-site wells. Sewage Disposal Environmental health staff provides assistance to residents who desire to or already have onsite sewage disposal systems on their own or their rented property. This assistance includes providing the activities, referral and documentation necessary to obtain required permits for onsite sewage disposal. The Energy Assistance Program (EAP)consists of three components; Fuel Assistance (FA), Coolng Assistance (CA) and Emergency Crisis Assistance (CAP). The FA component is intended to provide supplemental assistance to offset the rising costs of heating expenses. The CAP component is intended to provide assistance with heating equipment needs and emergency fuel outages. Fuel Assistance opens the second Tuesday in October. The last day for applying is the second Friday in November. Main Qualifications: Have a heating need, meet the income and resource levels, include all persons living in the household, live in an eligible living arrangement and meet the citizenship requirements. Crisis Assistance applicants must meet the following: income level, resource level. Deposits: Opens the first working day in November. May only receive once per lifetime per fuel type. (Natural gas, electric and LP gas) Heating Equipment: Opens November 1st or the first working day in November for Replacement, purchase, or repair of primary heating source. Primary Fuel: Opens the first working day in January. It is for those that did not receive fuel assistance. Requires cut off notice for electric and gas. Almost out of fuel oil, wood, coal or island purchased kerosene. Cooling Assistance: Is offered during the beginning in mid-June. Must meet eligibility requirements.
