Coordinates and facilitates initial health assessments for persons recently arrived in the United States with refugee or asylum status and residing in the City of Alexandria. Assists with referrals for follow-up of individual health-related problems.

Administers unemployment benefits - Initial benefit claims maybe filed online at www.vec.virginia.gov and select the Unemployment Insurance tab or by calling the Customer Contact Center (866) 832-2363. A claim for benefits must be filed during the week a claimant is unemployed.

Healthy Roanoke Valley (HRV) and Healthy Franklin County (HFC) are partnerships of over 50 public/private health and human services organizations, education institutions, and local businesses that are working collaboratively to address the healthcare needs of underserved populations in the Roanoke Valley and Franklin County. HRV and HRC are focused on four areas identified in by a Community Health Needs Assessment in 2021: (1) Healthy Behaviors, (2) Mental Health, (3) Collective Impact/Collaboration, and (4) Access to Services (Primary Care, Behavioral Health, and Oral Health).

In partnership with Richmond Behavioral Health Authority Region 4, the CSU is an 8-bed, short-term residential facility providing 24/7 behavioral crisis support for youth ages 5 to 17 and their families. Services include:

• Crisis assessment and intervention
• Individual and family therapy to address personal challenges and strengthen family dynamics and communication
• Group treatment to teach coping skills
• Medication management when appropriate
• Educational coordination in partnership with schools to ensure continuity
• Case management to connect families to long-term, community-based supports
• Coordination with local Community Services Boards (CSBs) for seamless care
• A family-centered approach that recognizes healing must include the entire family

The CSU is a 15-day program designed to reduce the impact of a crisis by preventing hospitalization.

Region Ten provides a variety of mental health services to meet the needs of our community. Services are provided for all age groups and are provided on an individual, group, or family basis. Services are also available at numerous locations across our catchment area to those experiencing mental health challenges and who may also have issues with substance use. Mental Health Services are strength-based, recovery-oriented services designed to evaluate and treat the mental health challenges that individuals may experience during their lifetime.

Offers a special needs camp to provide therapeutic activities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and/or physical disabilities. Day camps and Therapeutic Horseback Riding are offered to adults and children. Some of the activities campers participate in are: horseback riding, arts & crafts, games, animal care, hayrides, nature walks, gardening, cooking and picnics. A wheelchair accessible tree house is also available. Each Summer Day Camp session is a week long and runs from 9:00AM-3:00PM each day, except on Fridays the camp ends at 2:00PM. There are three camp weeks each summer.

Provides a loving, nurturing home for children who are homeless or in a family crisis

HOME offers comprehensive homebuyer education and counseling as well as provides down payment and closing cost assistance to low & middle income families who have the cash flow necessary to handle a mortgage payment, but are unable to put together the relatively large amount of money necessary to cover the down payment and closing costs. Financial assistance terms vary.

Provides supplemental payment to licensed Homes for Adults and Assisted Living Facilities that will accept the state approved rate. Client keeps a small monthly allowance for personal needs, and the rest of their monthly income is applied to the State approved rate. The Auxiliary Grant pays the balance of the approved rate to the provider.

Offers a range of health services to residents of Spotsylvania County.

Community engagement offers education information, referral, and resource assistance for a wide variety of health issues. Education materials are provided in health fairs, wellness screenings, community locations, and for groups requesting specific topics.

Transitional cash payments for families with children (e.g. unemployed single mother, disabled individual, etc.). Training, employment and self-sufficiency are the objectives of TANF Program.

Works with the community to identify health needs, develop interventions to address health needs, participate in health fairs and forums.

Provides a Silver Citizen Club sponsored by Culpeper County. Membership includes: social events, bridge, cards,trips and speakers. Club meets every Wednesday from 10AM - 2PM. Special Note: At the Wednesday meetings, members bring a covered dish to share for lunch. We look forward to seeing you!

Day support program for severely handicapped persons 18 years of age and over. This includes blind, deaf, cerebral palsy and multi-handicapped persons.

This program distributes food and personal care items to those facing crisis situations at our headquarters and through community partner organizations.

The centers offer employment guidance, training, and placement services to job seekers and employers throughout the Metro-Richmond region. Information and referrals to community and partner resources are also available to customers.

The department investigates complaints of cruelty to animals, quarantines animals that have bitten humans, provides 24-hour emergency service for injured or stray animals and removes stray dogs and livestock from streets and public areas. The Animal Shelter is operated in accordance with state and local law.

A satellite office of New River Valley Community Services. Promotes independence and self-reliance for citizens of the New River Valley through the provision of community-based services in the areas of mental health, developmental delay, substance abuse and prevention.
