Provides a program whose goal is to identify, assess, and provide services to children who have been abused or neglected and their families. It is designed to preserve families whenever possible, yet protect children and prevent further maltreatment. The CPS program is non-punitive in its approach and attempts to enable families to provide adequate care for their children. CPS utilizes a Differential Response System, allowing us to respond much of the time using a Family Assessment process, which is service oriented and strength-based. CPS in Albemarle County also utilizes a research based protocol, Structured Decision Making (SDM), to guide critical decisions during the life of a case ensuring a greater level of consistency to reduce re-occurrence of child maltreatment. ACDSS is piloting this program which may be used state-wide in the future. The CPS unit also provides foster care prevention services to families referred by the community and by Court Order. In addition, the CPS unit attempts outreach to prevent child abuse or neglect by addressing risk issues before they result in child maltreatment.

Provides emergency shelter, food, clothing and spiritual guidance for the homeless. Also, it provides food, clothing and other necessities to needy persons in the community. The Mission provides 3 meals daily every day of the year. It also provides community outreach to non-residents of the shelter and offers services to disaster victims. It provides daily shelter for transients and temporary long-term shelter for residents. Equipped with a staffed dayroom that includes a seating area for adults, computer lab, counseling suites, an educational afterschool space, teen area, and family entertainment rooms outfitted with age appropriate toys and electronics. This space is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Subsidized housing for the elderly and disabled

Pregnant women are provided medical examinations, education regarding healthy lifestyle behaviors including nutrition, breastfeeding, exercise, and safety, and referrals to other agencies. Offers case management including identification of needs and coordination of resources for accessing appropriate and timely services to pregnant women and their children up to age two.

Develops and manages the CTP, including initial development, issuance of plan interpretations, coordinates amendments and ensures project and land development compliance with the Plan policies. Provides traffic engineering and operational improvements for the county’s roadways. Manage the county’s transportation studies, safety studies and special projects. Coordinates with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to address resident concerns regarding vehicular speed, traffic calming, cut-through traffic concerns and safety on publicly maintained roadways through the Residential Traffic Management program. Establishes and manages the Residential Parking Permit Districts to help prevent traffic congestion and hazardous conditions in residential areas, provide easier parking access to residences fronting public streets, and preserve residential character and property values in Loudoun County. Develops and implements pedestrian and bicycle accommodations. Represents and advocates Loudoun County's interest at regional transportation organizations.

The Virginia Department of Social Services Foster Care Program provides homes and compassionate foster parents for children who are removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, or other family circumstances that prevent children from remaining in their homes.

Offers tent and cabin camping sites for individuals, families and groups, with and without utility hook-ups, showers, kitchen and restroom facilities, swimming pool. Most require advance permit. Camping is limited to 14 days per year per individual.

Physicians recommend hospice based on specific criteria. Hospice may be appropriate for patients of any age, including infants and children, who: * face terminal illness * have a life expectancy of six months or less, if the illness runs its usual course * wish to focus on quality of life * want interdisciplinary care of the patient and family who is facing a chronic or terminal illness with a focus primarily on comfort and support (palliative care) * do not want aggressive, curative therapy

Offers free tax help to people who make $65,000 or less and need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. Provides free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals in local communities. Informs taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.

Services include evaluation and treatment of all child and adolescent behavioral disorders. Individual, family and group therapy, as well as parenting classes are available. Psychiatric consultation and medication monitoring provided. Case management services are available for seriously emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. Outpatient substance abuse treatment is also available. Early intervention as well as crisis service is provided.

The Child Care Subsidy Program provides financial assistance to eligible families to help pay for the cost of child care so they can work or attend education or training programs.
