Encourages pregnant women to get early and regular prenatal care. FAMIS Select helps families pay for private or employer-sponsored health insurance. At least one child must already be enrolled in FAMIS before the family can enroll in FAMIS Select. Allows families to choose between covering their children through FAMIS or through a private or employer sponsored health plan. Dental services for children enrolled in FAMIS or FAMIS Plus are provided through the Smiles For Children program. The Smiles For Children program encourages good dental health and recommends regular check ups. The Energy Assistance Program (EAP)consists of three components; Fuel Assistance (FA), Coolng Assistance (CA) and Emergency Crisis Assistance (CAP). The FA component is intended to provide supplemental assistance to offset the rising costs of heating expenses. The CAP component is intended to provide assistance with heating equipment needs and emergency fuel outages.
Fuel Assistance opens the second Tuesday in October. The last day for applying is the second Friday in November. Main Qualifications: Have a heating need, meet the income and resource levels, include all persons living in the household, live in an eligible living arrangement and meet the citizenship requirements.
Crisis Assistance applicants must meet the following: income level, resource level. Deposits: Opens the first working day in November. May only receive once per lifetime per fuel type. (Natural gas, electric and LP gas) Heating Equipment: Opens November 1st or the first working day in November for Replacement, purchase, or repair of primary heating source. Primary Fuel: Opens the first working day in January. It is for those that did not receive fuel assistance. Requires cut off notice for electric and gas. Almost out of fuel oil, wood, coal or island purchased kerosene.
Cooling Assistance: Is offered during the beginning in mid-June. Must meet eligibility requirements.

Provides a free nutrition program for low-income pregnant and post-partum women, infants and children to age five. Recipients receive education, breast-feeding support, nutritional screening, and specific free foods. WIC stands for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. The goal of the program is to improve the health of pregnant, postpartum and breast-feeding women, infants and children (under 5 years) through better nutrition and access to health care. The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and operated in Virginia through the Virginia Department of Health. The program provides screening and referrals to other health, welfare and social service agencies, nutrition education, breast-feeding promotion and support as well as supplemental nutritious foods. To be eligible for the WIC Program, applicants must meet categorical, residential, income and nutrition risk requirements.
