Southwest Virginia Child Development Clinic offers a multi-disciplinary team approach for the evaluation of children and youth from birth to 21 years, suspected of having developmental delays and/or disabilities from our twelve county, three city area. The process involves testing, assessing, and making a diagnosis. We will make referrals and recommendations as needed to address the needs of our children and their families. Field clinics are conducted on a limited basis within the region. Diagnostic Evaluations are performed for the following: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism, Developmental delays, Mental Retardation, Behavioral/Emotional Disorders, Learning Problems, and other developmental disorders or disabilities.

FSRV's Youth Development program provides year-round prevention services to underserved children and youth through partnerships with local schools and community organizations. Youth Development Specialists implement evidence-based curricula, including Love Notes® and the Teen Outreach Program® (TOP®) for middle and high school students, while elementary-aged participants receive age-appropriate programming that promotes healthy relationships, positive decision-making, and resilience. Through consistent engagement with trusted adults, the program strengthens protective factors, delays the onset of high-risk behaviors, and equips youth with the skills needed for a healthy and successful transition into adulthood.

Fathers in Training (FIT) provides a supportive environment where young fathers can learn to parent their children, become financially responsible and learn about relationships, health and sexuality. in an environment that is conducive to learning and will address some very serious barriers to effective fathering such as domestic violence, anger management, conflict resolution, responsible fathering and working with support systemsand employment. FIT is geared to the protection of children and family. Twenty week (20 sessions) training sessions . Participants must complete at least 17 out of 20 sessions in order to receive a certificate of Program Completion.

The goal is to place the animals in a home which is appropriate based on the animal's needs, temperament, where it will reside, etc. as well as the applicant's history, experience, family, lifestyle, yard, housing situation, employment, other animals, etc. which affect the long-term health and safety of the animal under consideration. In addition, there may be other considerations which are animal-specific that will impact the animal's placement such as the animal's energy level and need for fencing, whether the animal has been socialized with small children and/or other animals, etc.
