Safety Net Program provides assistance to dialysis patients who are in urgent need of help with expenses related to treatment and who have exhausted all other means of financial support. The maximum amount of a Safety Net Grant is $100. Dialysis patients should work with their social workers to submit an application to AKF for these grants. Safety Net Grants Cover: *Treatment-specific expenses such as transportation costs to reach dialysis; over-the-counter medicines, medication co-payments, kidney donor expenses and other necessities such as dentures. Grants also cover medications, nutritional products, and durable medical supplies. The American Kidney Fund has contracted with ECHO, a mail order pharmacy, to provide medications and supplies at discount prices, thereby increasing the purchasing power of patients' grants. *Disaster relief assistance when catastrophic events strike dialysis patients' communities. This program provides funds to help patients replace medications, food and household items and pay for other necessities lost because of disasters such as flooding, hurricanes, etc. *The cost of dialysis while traveling. Patients or facilities may be reimbursed for the 20% of treatment costs not covered by Medicare or any other source for emergency transient dialysis. Grants are limited to travel necessitated by death or serious illness in the family or for the purpose of kidney transplant workup only. Important note to dialysis center social workers: AKF is no longer accepting or processing outdated versions of program applications. All out of date applications will be returned. Grayson County is a part of the Galax-Carroll-Grayson Animal Shelter, which is located on Fair Street in Galax, VA. All stray animals collected by the Grayson County Department of Animal Control are transported to the shelter. This service provides a place for lost dogs to be reunited with their rightful owner or for abandoned dogs to be adopted into a good home. The Energy Assistance Program (EAP)consists of three components; Fuel Assistance (FA), Coolng Assistance (CA) and Emergency Crisis Assistance (CAP). The FA component is intended to provide supplemental assistance to offset the rising costs of heating expenses. The CAP component is intended to provide assistance with heating equipment needs and emergency fuel outages.
Fuel Assistance opens the second Tuesday in October. The last day for applying is the second Friday in November. Main Qualifications: Have a heating need, meet the income and resource levels, include all persons living in the household, live in an eligible living arrangement and meet the citizenship requirements.
Crisis Assistance applicants must meet the following: income level, resource level. Deposits: Opens the first working day in November. May only receive once per lifetime per fuel type. (Natural gas, electric and LP gas) Heating Equipment: Opens November 1st or the first working day in November for Replacement, purchase, or repair of primary heating source. Primary Fuel: Opens the first working day in January. It is for those that did not receive fuel assistance. Requires cut off notice for electric and gas. Almost out of fuel oil, wood, coal or island purchased kerosene.
Cooling Assistance: Is offered during the beginning in mid-June. Must meet eligibility requirements
