Responsible for coordinating and directing a solid waste program for Roanoke County

The office of Neighborhood Services works collaboratively with citizens, neighborhood groups, government agencies, businesses and nonprofit organizations to strengthen the social fabric of our neighborhoods. Through the use of social media, other digital platforms, neighborhood collaboration, customer service, public outreach, and other special projects, this office provides a one-stop-shop for engaging with the public. The Office of Community Engagement also encompasses The Office of Communications and Neighborhood Services.

Responsible for operation of the landfill, trash disposal, recycling, composting, household hazardous waste collection, and environmental controls to safeguard the community.

The Planning and Zoning Department provides land use information and issues zoning permits for the erection, construction, reconstruction, moving, adding to, enlargement or alteration of any structure, or the establishment or expansion of any land use, and investigates zoning violations.

Supervises planning issues for Nelson County through a committee appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

Pulaski County has a extensive water and sewer system extending from a two-million gallon per day water treatment plant fed by Claytor Lake in the Draper community to participation in the Peppers Ferry Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant located 15 miles to the east the Fairlawn community

Responsible for the development and maintenance City owned infrastructure including public streets (with the exception of State maintained streets), water, sewer, and parks.

Provides solid waste disposal services to residents of Bedford County at our Waste Management Facility and at 25 convenience centers. Recycling services are offered at 15 of these convenience centers. Household hazardous waste is also accepted at the Waste Management Facility during regular operating hours.

Provides building permits, rezoning, variance, conditional use permits, land distributing permits, zoning amendments, and special exception permits.

The City of Danville’s Department of Community Development is responsible for coordinating and administering many community improvement projects throughout the City. The Department is responsible for administering the Zoning and Building Code for the City

The City of Alexandria's Street and Sewer Maintenance division provides maintenance and repairs for all City sewers, streets, sidewalks and fire hydrants; maintains stream beds, weirs and stream banks; maintains drainage tunnels, box culverts and stormwater pollution removal facilities; maintains bridges; and conducts snow removal and flood control operations.

Provides an efficient and responsible waste management system for our 8 member communities.

The CSPDC is a regional government agency that assists the local governments in our region with planning, project development and administration, and administrative services in the areas of community development, economic development, emergency management and flood mitigation, environmental, housing, transit, transportation, water quality and quantity, and water/sewer infrastructure.

Albemarle County's Community Development Department is responsible for planning, reviewing, and implementing land uses on behalf of the community reflecting the County's interests in historic, natural and cultural resources, the creation and protection of a healthy and safe built environment, the provision of diverse housing, and the effective stewardship of all of the County's assets.
