Responsible for building, maintaining and operating the state's roads, bridges and tunnels. Provides motorist assistance, citizen complaints/comments, information requests.

Permits are required for all new construction, additions, installations, alterations/remodeling, demolition, changes of use, changes of occupancy, movement of a lot or property line, removal or disturbing any asbestos, and any work not specifically exempted by the Code. Permits must be obtained prior to the commencement of any work.

Orange County Building Department is responsible for working with citizens and contractors to assure public, personal, and property safety. This includes the following responsibilities: - Building permits - Plan review - Inspections - Tenant complaints - Addresses - Street signs - Storm and structural damage investigation

Provides site evaluations and permitting for on-site sewage disposal (septic) systems and private wells, as well as regulatory oversight for private sector evaluations and designs in these fields. We provide health education to the community with regard to safe food handling practices, lead exposure, radon, rabies, and other environmental health concerns. We also inspect and/or permit daycare and adult care facilities, school cafeterias, restaurants, hotels/motels, bed and breakfasts, festival and fair vendors, campgrounds, summer camps, migrant labor camps, and marinas. Additionally, we investigate animal bites and/or potential rabies exposures and certain environmental complaints.

Enforce the codes and regulations established by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the City governing the construction, alteration, and maintenance of buildings and structures within the City for the protection of residents and property.

Provides residents with comprehensive environmental health services such as food, water and building inspection, sewage disposal, septic and well permits, public food permits, regulation of public food establishments, tourist establishment sanitation and restaurant applications. Investigates reports of food illnesses, working with businesses and citizens to educate and correct deficiencies. Also investigates reports of raw sewage or other reports of ground water contamination. Provides Marriage, Divorce, Birth and Death Certificates.

The City of Danville’s Department of Community Development is responsible for coordinating and administering many community improvement projects throughout the City. The Department is responsible for administering the Zoning and Building Code for the City

Works directly for the Board of Supervisors. Responsibilities include drafting, implementing, and enforcing policies that are adopted by the Board of Supervisors. The administrator also maintains the record of the proceedings for the Board of Supervisors, and maintains county operating and capital budgets.

The Street Division includes repair and replacement of concrete curbs and gutters, highway medians, driveway entrance aprons, sidewalks, filling of potholes, repairs to deteriorated sections of streets and grading of gravel shoulders.

The Public Service Authority provides water and sewer services to many residents, businesses, industries, and schools in Henry County.
