Vision Impaired - Roanoke, Roanoke Regional Office, Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired

DBVI provides services and resources which empower individuals who are blind, vision impaired or deafblind to achieve their desired levels of employment, education, and personal independence. Services are provided through 4 main programs: Vocational Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Teaching and Independent Living, Low Vision Services and Education Services. Most services are provided in the person's home, school, or workplace. Referrals are accepted from individuals, families, schools, doctors, and other community partners.

Library - Pulaski, Pulaski County Library System

Loans recreational and informational materials (print and non-print) to library patrons. Provides library programs to interested citizens (story time, book discussion groups, summer reading, library tours,etc). Offers fax and copying services for a fee. Used book sales through Friends of the Library.

The Arc of Northern Virginia's Information and Referral program provides disability information and referral to community services and resources for people with disabilities via telephone or internet. Also provides weekly emails regarding events and announcements and disability issues on the local and state level. The Arc also facilitates education workshops and publish a monthly/bi monthly newsletters.

Jones Memorial Library is a research library and archive with collections in genealogy and local history. We collect, organize, preserve and make available materials for research on genealogy and the history of the Lynchburg area. The library is free and open to researchers some services such as photocopying of materials may incur a fee. Materials do not circulate and are available for use in the library. The Friends of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library is a 501(c)(3) entity recognized as such by the IRS. The Friends accept donations of books, audio and visual tapes and CDs and DVDs and records. Details of what the Friends want and do not want can be found on the appropriate page of the Friends' web site, along with information on when and how to make donations. Funds raised through the spring and fall book sales are used to support additional library programs and projects promoting literacy and personal development, and the development of library services. The Friends' newsletter, "Among Friends" appears three times a year - spring, summer and fall.

Disability Resource - Staunton, Talking Book Center

The Talking Book Center is the local library for residents with print disabilities who are unable to utilize print materials found in local public libraries. The TBC provides patrons with audio books and magazines, along with an audio book player on long-term loan. This free service provided through the Library of Congress is supported locally by the localities served, as well as area United Way chapters in Greater Augusta and Rockbridge County. Accessible by the CATS bus.
