A Mecklenburg County, Winter Weather 2026, ECVA Disaster Information and Alerts

Mecklenburg County has pre-designated locations throughout the county that can be used as emergency shelters if conditions warrant. These locations include a mix of county-owned facilities as well as facilities operated in cooperation with partner agencies. When shelters are opened, they are supported with appropriate staffing, supplies, and coordination. At this time, no decision has been made to open a shelter, and there is no specific location or time identified. Because these facilities are not staffed unless a shelter is officially opened, we are not releasing specific shelter locations at this time. This is to avoid confusion and to prevent anyone from traveling to a facility that is not open or operational. Quick answers to common questions: • Are shelters available if needed? Yes. • Are we prepared to open them? Yes. • Is one currently scheduled to open? No. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to take a few simple steps to stay prepared at home: • Have enough food, water, and medications for several days • Keep phones and backup power devices charged • Have flashlights and extra batteries available • Use generators and alternative heat sources safely and never indoors As conditions evolve, we will continue to monitor the situation and will share clear, official information if shelter operations become necessary. We appreciate everyone looking out for one another and encourage residents to follow updates from trusted sources as the weekend approaches.
