Pulaski County has a extensive water and sewer system extending from a two-million gallon per day water treatment plant fed by Claytor Lake in the Draper community to participation in the Peppers Ferry Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant located 15 miles to the east the Fairlawn community

Provides solid waste disposal services to residents of Bedford County at our Waste Management Facility and at 25 convenience centers. Recycling services are offered at 15 of these convenience centers. Household hazardous waste is also accepted at the Waste Management Facility during regular operating hours.

Dickenson County provides free trash collection service to county residents and businesses except within the town of Clintwood which provides its own service.

The Facilities & Environmental Services Department (FES) provides the following services. The City of Alexandria collects trash from its residential customers once a week on a designated collection day, Monday through Thursday. Residential customers are charged a Solid Waste User Fee on the residential tax bill on a bi-yearly basis.

Campbell County operates nine transfer sites at which all County citizens (including the residents of Brookneal and Altavista) may deposit household waste at no charge. Large, bulky items, such as appliances, mattresses and furniture, tires, televisions, and brush are to be brought to the Campbell County Landfill Center, or the Livestock Road Regional Landfill, for disposal.
