The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining all town-owned properties, all infrastructure within the public rights-of-way, all public water and sewer utilities, and the town fleet of vehicles and equipment. Public Works also provides curbside collection programs to residential customers such as refuse and recycling, spring and fall cleanup, leaf collection, and brush collection. Responsible for operation of the landfill, trash disposal, recycling, composting, household hazardous waste collection, and environmental controls to safeguard the community.

Responsible for the collection, handling and disposal of solid waste generated in Lee County. The Solid Waste Department operates a centralized Transfer Station near Jonesville. No waste is disposed of on site as all Lee County waste is now transported to the City of Bristol Solid Waste Management Facility. All waste brought into the Transfer Station, other than bagged household garbage and metal, will be billed to the customer or contractor. The Transfer Station DOES NOT accept dead animals or hazardous material. Convenience Centers are provided at the following locations: Ben Hur, Blackwater, Dryden, Ewing, Flatwoods, Gibson Station, Jasper, Keokee, Olinger, Rose Hill, St. Charles, Stickleyville, Sugar Run, Woodway. Provides water and sewer services to the Town of Leesburg. Also plan, develop, and maintain Town utility systems that provide safe, efficient, and reliable water and wastewater services in a fiscally responsible manner.

Provides solid waste disposal services to residents of Bedford County at our Waste Management Facility and at 25 convenience centers. Recycling services are offered at 15 of these convenience centers. Household hazardous waste is also accepted at the Waste Management Facility during regular operating hours.

The Manassas Park Department of Public Works provides water, sewer and trash collection services and maintains City streets and traffic signals.

Dickenson County provides free trash collection service to county residents and businesses except within the town of Clintwood which provides its own service.

Residents and businesses in the city of Roanoke, the county of Roanoke and the town of Vinton generate 700 tons of waste every day. These valley localities have created the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority and joined forces with Norfolk Southern in an innovative public-private partnership to take out the trash. Each locality collects its own trash using its own equipment. After collection, refuse trucks deliver the trash to the Resource Authority's Tinker Creek Transfer Station where it is loaded into rail cars. At the end of the day trash is transported by rail to the Smith Gap Station.

The city collects refuse and recyclable items from all single family homes in the city once a week at no charge.
