Planning and zoning Economic Development: Promoting Amherst County- Tourism, Business, Industry.

United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County (UWHR) serves working households living in the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE). Our mission is improving lives by connecting and mobilizing community resources.

Provides the community with an emergency medical planning and development facility. The Lord Fairfax Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc. has been created to establish, operate, administer and maintain an Emergency Medical Services System which provides for the arrangement of personnel, facilities and equipment for the effective and coordinated delivery of emergency health care. Service area covers Planning District 7.

The Department of Community Development coordinates Lynchburg's construction, code compliance and community revitalization efforts. Community Development helps our businesses, institutions, neighborhoods and residents create a thriving City through efficient plan review and permitting, thoughtful planning and preservation and effective property maintenance and grant project implementation. The department is comprised of four divisions: Grants Administration Inspections - Code Compliance and New Construction Planning Zoning & Natural Resources

The WDB collaborates with contracted program operators and workforce system partners to assist employers with applicant screening, writing job descriptions, and training new employees. The WDB also ensures that classes and career services are effectively delivered for Virginia Career Works – Central Region youth and adult residents as well as businesses.

The purpose of the Williamsburg Area Arts Commission (WAAC) shall be to assist Williamsburg City Council and James City County Board of Supervisors and other appropriate bodies and organizations in supporting and stimulating excellence in the arts and in creating an atmosphere which encourages the growth, development, and accessibility of cultural amenities for the benefit of citizens and visitors.

Provides professional planning and technical resources, a concerted approach to regional cooperation, planning assistance with program delivery, and a forum for the interaction of appointed and elected local government officials and citizens members.

Supervises planning issues for Nelson County through a committee appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

Plans and monitors development and expansion of hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, mental health centers and other health care services. Makes recommendations to state officials regarding whether major capital expenditures, such as addition of hospital beds, should be approved.

Provides continuing, cooperative and comprehensive transportation planning for Hampton Roads.

Responsible for the advancement of the physical, economic, and social development of the Third Planning District. This is achieved through the following functions: physical planning, community development, grantsmanship, grants management, inter-governmental networking, transportation planning, economic development planning, housing assistance, town management. Business and industry loans and flood information. Also provides maps.

To provide coordination, training and a support system to all persons, groups and agencies involved in emergency medical pre-hospital care in Central Virginia. To assist with grants, pre hospital protocols and medical direction. To support homeland defense issues for EMS & Fire agencies.

Funds partner agency programs carefully chosen for their ability to produce desired outcomes that match the community's needs.

Promote the orderly and efficient developments of the physical, social, and economic elements of localities. Provide technical assistance with economic development and transportation planning, state and federal grants, mapping, GIS. Staff provides technical/liaison assistance to member jurisdictions

Transit Services and Programs coordinates Metro related services, the Alexandria DASH bus service, DOT paratransit for the mobility impaired, ridesharing to promote the formation of car and vanpools, the Virginia Railway Express commuter rail, bus stop amenities, and other vehicle alternative programs.

Provides services that promote the orderly and efficient development of the physical, social and economic elements of PD7 by planning, encouraging and assisting governmental subdivisions to plan for the future. Also encourages and facilitates local government cooperation, in addressing on a regional basis, problems of greater than local significance. The Commission provides a variety of technical services to its member local governments including: planning, mapping, grant application assistance, and network meetings.

The Planning Council has been recognized as a community convener around human services issues. From children's issues to homelessness, The Planning Council has identified areas of regional concern and brought together the decision makers and resources to address these challenges. With expertise in community needs assessments, research, and evaluation, data analysis, and implementation of new strategic plans, our team partners with local governments and businesses, non-profit agencies, and the faith-based community to address the most vulnerable populations' needs.

Improve access for the general public and businesses to transportation choices (public transportation, carpools, vanpools, human service transportation, freight rail and telecommuting). Provide access and improvements to Virginia's railways to encourage economic development and reduce traffic on Virginia's highways.

MPO coordinates the transportation planning activities of the various transportation-related agencies that have both a direct and indirect impact on the Long Range Plan and Transportation Improvement Program.

Raises funds throughout the community for over 1000 non-profit organizations during an annual campaign, September through early December. ****United Way NCA does not offer direct services to the public. ****

Reviews and develops plans that reflect the County's interest in the preservation of the environment, the provision of efficient public facilities and services, the provision of diverse housing opportunities, and the effective utilization of the area's land resources. Building Inspections also fall under Communtiy Developemnt.

Provides information about county and community resources. Insures that county programs provide access for those with disabilities, ie. sign language interpreters.

Creating community-based and community-led solutions that strengthen the cornerstones for a good quality of life: education, financial stability and health.

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) partners with state, federal, local and nonprofit housing and community and economic development initiatives. DHCD programs strive to maintain the vibrancy of communities throughout the Commonwealth and include providing universal broadband access, investing in economic development initiatives, promulgating the statewide building and fire regulations, preserving the affordability and efficiency of Virginia’s homes and buildings, addressing homelessness, reducing eviction rates across the state and fostering innovative solutions to create affordable housing.

The Shenandoah Valley Workforce Development Board (SVWDB) was established in 2000 to provide oversight and administration of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) in the Shenandoah Valley. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act guides the delivery of workforce development programs for adults, dislocated workers and youth throughout the United States, with the intent of establishing and maintaining an effective network of resources for businesses, workers and career seekers.
