The Beard Center provides community education on healthy aging and problems of aging. Several workshops and an annual summer conference are held each year for community members, professionals and students. SAARA promotes social, educational, legal, research and health care resources and services that support accessible, effective and accountable addictions: prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery. Chapters are located statewide.

Provides a forum for collaboratively addressing critical homelessness and poverty issues to advance and strengthen our communities.

The Committee is concerned with the quality of life available to citizens with disabilities. The Committee is dedicated to making city and private programs and services accessible to all citizens. To accomplish this task the Committee obtains and provides information to citizens as well as government agencies.

Provides a reception, a support group, a variety of workshops, and a newsletter. The S.A.F.E.(Sexual Assault Free Environment) program includes year-round activities designed to develop campus awareness and prevention of sexual assault. Continuing education courses, and workshops on career planning and assertive communication is available to the community and campus (with fees).

Provides a statewide grassroots organization dedicated to challenging injustice by empowering people in local communities to address issues that effect the quality of their lives. Virginia Organizing provides workshops and training sessions on dismantling racism, understanding the economy, leadership and development, sexual orientation issues. VOP has a statewide e-mail action alert system to assist groups in helping one another on particular issues.

To promote the rights of persons with disabilities by advocating for equality, dignity and independence through advising the community and advancing public awareness.

Serves as the clearinghouse and gateway for community and faith-based organizations interested in collaboration with government to address community needs. Promotes partnerships, training and technical assistance to help community-based organization build their capacity to provide effective services. Provides procurement and funding information to faith-based, volunteer, private, and community organizations as needed.

Low cost spay and neuter for pets. information for public education on exposing and eliminating animal abuse. Public education, litigation, research, investigation, and grass roots organization to accomplish its goals of protecting all species from exploitation and cruelty.

Offers scholarships to help students achieve academic goals, to involve students in advancing the cause of civil rights, and to help reduce discrimination in education.

Supports local communities in developing plans and actions that will increase the numbers of children who begin kindergarten ready to read. Program's initiative is designed to provide resources, training and networking to early childhood development providers. The focus is on home based day care, private and faith based early child care providers and is funded by Square One.

Provides a special interest organization promoting equal rights and employment opportunities for federally employed women. FEW is an organization concerned with improving employment opportunities for women in the federal government. It publishes a newsletter on career and training opportunities, changes in civil service policies and regulations, and other issues of concern. The pentagon I chapter also maintains a job opportunities and talent bank to inform women of available positions throughout the government in the Washington, D.C. area

To enable African Americans and disadvantaged others to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights through program services and advocacy.

Supports policies that contribute to the elimination of racism. This includes but is not limited to policies that eliminate racial profiling, increase immigrant rights, retain and strengthen affirmative action, reduce hate crimes and result in increased education on racism and its elimination.

Advises county groups and the community on issues of concern to women. Serves as a liaison to help the County address issues of concern to women. Provides public forums, reports to the County Board, and speakers. Offers workshops on topics such as health, financial issues and safety.

Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation, Inc. foster advocacy and secure financial support above and beyond public revenues to encourage innovative educational opportunities for the students, faculty and schools.
