Volunteer Opportunities

Provides volunteers that can be assigned to almost any patient care or non-patient care area of the hospital depending upon their interests. Duties may involve deliveries to patients, patient transport, clerical duties, etc.

Volunteering at Carilion Clinic is a great way to help others and be a part of the organization's mission for a healthier community. Volunteers work in more than 30 different departments at Carilion. From hosting patients and visitors in waiting rooms, to assisting customers in the gift shop, to delivering cards and flowers to patients to literally guiding the hundreds of visitors to wherever they need to be on a given day, each volunteer is an unsung hero who touches the lives of countless people they encounter. The volunteer program is for ages 14 and older.

Trains individuals 18 and older to perform patient care, run errands, provide transportation services, hospitality, administrative assistance and continuing education and/or in-services. The opportunities are long-term/ongoing.

The CSB offers volunteer and student training, supervision, and opportunities for service and personal growth. Volunteers may be providing direct service or administrative support, or helping with special projects.

Volunteer program for older adults, ages 55 and up, who are willing to use their life experiences and skills to answer the call for neighbors in need.

Volunteers serve in about 50 areas of the Hospitals, ranging from the Emergency Room to the Infectious Disease Clinic for HIV+ children. Duties range from role modeling to assisting nurses on floors with non-medical patient needs.
