We are the Norfolk chapter of the National Association on Mental Health, one of over 3,000 chapters across the country. We serve individuals and families living with mental illness. We offer support groups and educational groups for individuals living with mental illness. We also offer twice yearly Family-to-Family classes (see www.namivirginia.org)for fuller descriptions)of groups and classes. A monthly educational /support group is available to all interested individuals. As individuals and families impacted by mental health issues we advocate on a state and local level with decision makers to improve service delivery.

Provides a support and advocacy group for family and friends of those suffering from mental illness. We welcome all concerned individuals -- parents, siblings, spouses and friends - who want to learn how to help or how to cope with when there is mental illness. Person with mental illness who would like to share information or learn more are also welcomed. Provides education, support, advocacy, a library and referrals. Also has a bus and operates own transportation when needed.

Consumer-run peer support facility is provided for people with a history of mental illness or a current mental health diagnosis in support of their recovery efforts. Services include peer support, advocacy, education, socialization and recreational opportunities.

NAMI Family Support Group is a peer-led support group for family members, caregivers and loved ones of individuals living with mental illness. Gain insight from the challenges and successes of others facing similar circumstances.
Provides mental health counseling to residents of Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta. A sliding scale fee is available for all clients, based on the client's family income and number of dependents. Most health insurances are also accepted. Individual, couples, marital, and family counseling is provided for a wide variety of presenting issues: anxiety, depression, relationship issues, domestic violence, social and emotional difficulties, sexual abuse and recovery, career change and job stress, grief and loss, child and adolescent concerns, LGBQT+ issues, coping with life transitions, anger management, family and parenting concerns, and more.

Valley Health Senior Structured Outpatient Program is medically supervised and tailored to meet the needs of older adults requiring behavioral health treatment and extra support is required. Most therapy sessions will be in group format,although individual and family therapy can be provided if clinically indicated. These groups are facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker or licensed professional counselor and under the supervision of a board certified psychiatrist. Additionally,the patient's care is coordinated with the individual's Primary Care Physician. Medicare and Private Insurance accepted. A social drop-in center (no appointment needed) for mental health consumers. Provides a safe, consumer run alternative for the purpose of socialization, self help, advocacy, recreation and education. Operates primarily during the time traditional providers of mental-health services are closed. Employs consumers of mental health services as staff with the belief that they can provide services for individuals, making their own lives more productive and meaningful, while enriching the lives of others. Sponsors support groups such as the Peer Support Group, Veteran's Support Group, Wellness Recovery Action Plan Workshops, Codependents Anonymous, Music Group, and Dual Recovery Anonymous; a 12-step program for people with both substance abuse and mental health issues. Provides activities such as bingo, chess and checkers, cook outs, karaoke, holiday activities and more. Veterans Group on Mondays at 1pm.

Referrals are made within RACS (such as to the psychiatrist) or to other professionals as necessary. Referrals are made to RACS by many sources such as doctors, family members, courts.
