Offers parenting classes (6 evening classes for a total of 12 hours of parenting information for parents of children age 0 to 17). Childcare may be available for children, age 0-12, whose parents are attending parenting class-call to verify Teen class is offered to teens age 13-17. In addition to a brief overview of child development, key concepts such as parenting styles, safety, effective communication, stressors, self-esteem, conflict resolution, problem solving and appropriate and effective discipline techniques are covered. Offers parents the opportunity to learn more about themselves, their children and to develop improved parenting skills.

Mentor program for pregnant teens. These adult role models have successfully raised their own children and assist the teen throughout her pregnancy and up to the baby's first birthday.

Parent education and coaching strengthen families and communities to prevent child abuse and neglect.

Empowering fathers and strengthening families by providing a 13 week development group of fathers supporting fathers, understanding child development, employer networking (to gain professional references)and employment resources. Workshop includes guest speakers on all topics while mentoring men to become better fathers. Counseling services are offered for all ages and for a variety of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, post traumatic stress disorder, etc. Based on the wraparound process, therapists and family care coordinators focus on recognizing family strengths which can be used to build the solutions that will work for each family. Telehealth options also available if preferred.

Playgroup for kids and a fun-filled program for parents. Each 90 minute program features free play, an art activity, circle time, and great resources for parents including health information from experts. Registration is required.

Promotes parent and community awareness of the programs and services for children with special needs. The Center encourages parent participation in the education-decision making process and provides seminars, training programs, and information to foster the parent-professional partnership.

Provides a wide range of classes that teach you what to expect during childbirth, how to care for a newborn and helpful parenting skills. Also offer Maternity Case Management for first-time mothers or women who desire extra support during a subsequent pregnancy. Offers educational classes to women in the community on such topics as nutrition and exercise, siblings, Cesarean birth and infant readiness and other subjects of current concern to women.

Parent Education and Family Stabilization Courses for Married and Unmarried Parents/Guardians/Grandparents

The Young Mothers Program provides housing, counseling and training to homeless young women, age 16 to 24, who are pregnant or have young children, and support services for minors who are pregnant or parenting. With an emphasis on parenting, education, job readiness and self-sufficiency, our graduates are able to support themselves and their children when they leave the program.

In Southwest Virginia, many expecting mothers face barriers to prenatal care, financial assistance, and social support. The Flourish Project is here to help connect expectant mothers in the counties of Wise, Dickenson, Pulaski, Montgomery, Floyd, and Giles, and the Cities of Norton and Radford, Virginia, to the resources they need for a healthy pregnancy and beyond. The Flourish Project will provide: Connections to Care Work to connect expecting mothers with resources for transportation, housing, food, and other essential pregnancy-related expenses. Financial Assistance Provide education on maternal and infant health and safety while advocating for better care access in rural communities. Education & Advocacy Offer peer support, mentorship, and community connections to reduce isolation and strengthen emotional well-being for healthy mom and baby. Social Supports Connect expectant mothers with vital prenatal care, ensuring healthier outcomes for both mom and baby through early support and access to essential resources.

Hampton Roads Parenting Education Network (HRPEN) is a network of agencies and organizations that have come together to offer education, support, information and referral for parents, caregivers, and professionals. HRPEN members are committed to established best practices in parenting education and work collaboratively to offer quality programs throughout Hampton Roads.

Healthy Families Programs are offered to provide intensive support services to overburdened families with newborn children.

Prevention Services Division offers an extensive range of programs and services to youth, families, and communities. Each youth prevention program and service is evidence-based and proven to be effective. We offer creative, informative, and skill-based programs, classes, trainings and workshops that support individuals and families in leading healthy, successful and productive lives.

Provides training and workshops for parents and educators; maintains lending library of educational resources including books, videos and computer instructional items; assists parents in understanding information in order to make informed educational decisions; and distributes newsletters and informational guides several times yearly.

Project LINK provides an array of services to meet the multiple needs of substance-abusing pregnant women, mothers and their infants, and women of childbearing age. On-site Project LINK services include case management, education, parenting skills, and support groups. Treatment modalities include case management, housing assistance and group therapy. Also provide Fatherhood Initiative program.
