Coordinates and refers qualified interpreters and computer assisted real-time translation (CART) aka captioning for the deaf and hard of hearing for the state agencies and the court system. The interpreter services program also publishes a Directory of Qualified Interpreters. The Directory includes contact information for interpreters in Virginia who meet the definition of a qualified interpreter. VDDHH distributes the Directory to consumers and service providers to assist in securing qualified interpreters for various assignments. A hard copy of this Directory can be obtained by contacting our agency via email or by phone or downloading a copy from our website.
Provides certification through National Interpreter Certification (NIC), training through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP), and self-regulation using the Ethical Practices System (EPS). Also provides support services for practicing and student sign language interpreters.
