Conversational English Classes are held at the Y Center and provides English Language Learners (ELL) the opportunity to practice and learn English. These classes are free of charge and provide free childcare. For a complete schedule of our classes, please call 540-961-9622.

Services in Virginia include: Technical and finacial support of Low and Moderate individuals and immigrants; information and referrals, immigration counseling, housing assistance, translation and interpretation services, job search assistance, and crisis intervention.

Immigration/Naturalization Adjudication Offices
Coordinates and refers qualified interpreters and computer assisted real-time translation (CART) aka captioning for the deaf and hard of hearing for the state agencies and the court system. The interpreter services program also publishes a Directory of Qualified Interpreters. The Directory includes contact information for interpreters in Virginia who meet the definition of a qualified interpreter. VDDHH distributes the Directory to consumers and service providers to assist in securing qualified interpreters for various assignments. A hard copy of this Directory can be obtained by contacting our agency via email or by phone or downloading a copy from our website.
The Refugee Resettlement program main goal is to provide for the effective resettlement of the refugees / entrants and to aid their economic and social adjustment in order to promote self-sufficiency. The date of entry, month and year a person entered the U.S. is used to determine whether an individual is eligible for refugee assistance and how long he / she may receive assistance from refugee programs.
Refugee Resettlement Services include orientation, employment, case management, English as a Second Language classes, school liaison services and housing.
Provides decisions on which refugees fearing prosecution in their country of origin may remain in the United States.

Offers interpretation and translation to persons speaking Ethiopian languages. Provides translation of legal papers, including asylum, and interpretation for legal, school and medical issues.
Individualized and small group instruction for foreign born adults. Open entry and exit. Students wishing to learn English may come at other times with prior arrangements with Center teachers. Conversational class instruction is available at the Center. In addition, classes are available in the Community.

Provides legal services to low-income Asian immigrants with limited English proficiency in the areas of immigration, primarily in the areas of naturalization, VAWA, U and T visas, and adjustment of status.
Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in basic reading, writing, math, English, computers/technology, personal finances, citizenship, and immigration tutoring. Local partners for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, coordinate the Winchester Little Libraries that provide free books as well as leading the Campaign for Grade-level Reading.

Provides adults in the SAW area confidential one-to-one, small group, and/or online tutoring for adults in basic reading and writing. Serves both native and non-native speakers of English. All of the volunteer tutors are trained by the organization. Schedules are flexible.

Provides area adults with the educational opportunities needed to be successful workers, parents and community members. The Charlottesville City Schools Adult Education program believes that all adults are capable of learning and deserve a chance to further their education. We offer quality services at affordable cost to a diverse adult population. We offer classes in Basic Academic Skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL-five levels), GED Prep, and Family Literacy classes to improve the ability of adults to meet their goals as parents, workers and community members. We also work with businesses to provide custom-designed classes for employees.

BEACON offers in-person English and Citizenship classes both in the morning and in the evening. Classes are 12 weeks and site locations include: Bethel Lutheran Church, Manassas Presbyterian Church, Manassas Baptist Church, and Manassas Park Community Center. Students must come to an in-person registration to enroll in online classes.
