Community Care Ministries is designed to go to various nursing homes and institutions and distribute care packages, magazines, candy, bibles, etc. to the patients. The Community Care Ministries workers will offer a friendly word or prayer at the bedside of the afflicted, conveying the love of God to them as well as the love of the community.

Friendly Visitors make weekly social visits with older or homebound adults. Volunteers offer friendship and companionship to individuals looking for someone to spend time with. They share stories, listen and reminisce, play games, take walks and simply enjoy each other's company. Telephone Reassurance volunteers call every weekday morning to check in, chat and make sure everything is okay. Volunteers help start the day of an isolated individual on the right foot. They also offer peace of mind for those living alone.

Provide healthy interactions and activities that promote physical and cognitive health. Care will be individualized and may include these activities and many others: Meal preparation to help ensure nutrition needs are met Conversation and discussion of current and historic events to help sharpen memory Crafting and playing games for mental stimulation Reminiscing as an enjoyable pastime Outings to promote socialization Scrapbooking as a creative outlet Outdoor activities like gardening for fitness Walking outside to promote an active lifestyle

Visits nursing homes, correctional institutions, jails and shut-ins, particularly at Christmas time. Area nursing homes receive a visit once a week (every Wednesday).

The friendly visitor program is designed to create opportunities for senior citizens to have a companion at least once or twice a week, if possible.

Collaborative effort between 2 local community services and AASC. Elderly in need of friendly telephone checking service are contacted by CSB's clubhouse members for security and socialization.

Senior Services screens and trains volunteers who donate their time and energy to bring companionship during weekly visits or regular phone calls to seniors residing in the City of Alexandria. The goal of the program is to relieve loneliness and the feelings of isolation experienced by many of the City's seniors.

Offers Home Style Services to provide non-medical supportive services that help people remain independent and in control. It starts with a careful review of the situation and continues with an individualized plan of services. This plan includes options that make it easier to match the right services to the right needs and meet daily challenges - big and small. Also offers Medication Reminder systems and Personal Emergency Response monitoring. Accepts Medicare and Medicaid.

*Private Pay Staff Nurses perform the initial evaluation of a new client and develop a personalized care plan. *Companions includes tasks like meal preparation and assistance with walking. Will dedicate the time needed to help with lifes chores or play a game over a cup of tea. *Home Health Aides are the right choice for people who have a hard time managing the more basic activities of daily living. Assists with everything from personal hygiene to taking blood pressure and help feeding.

Provides assistance with everyday tasks of life to the elderly. Services include transportation, respite care, friendly visiting, reassurance calls, grocery shopping, light housekeeping and yard work.

CVACL's Checking Services regularly contacts older adults at their residences to ensure that they are well and safe. The visits provide psychological reassurance to individuals who are alone and/or isolated and in need of personal connection with other people.

Family Lifeline's Friendly Visiting Volunteer Program is a volunteer-based friendly visitation program that provides companionship, outreach, and advocacy. By facilitating friendly visits, we strive to meet the emotional needs of older adults experiencing isolation and loneliness - helping them to age-in-place, in their own homes, for as long as possible. Not only do we connect older adults with volunteers, we re-connect them to their community. At the same time, our program provides volunteers with the opportunity to share their time with older adults, enhancing their own pursuit for successful aging.
