Offers a program that provides low-income families with funding to enhance the quality, affordability, and availability of child care. Child Care services assist low-income parents who are working and/or are attending school and whose children have child care needs. Child Care services are also provided to families who are receiving TANF and are working towards economic self-sufficiency. With welfare reform's increased emphasis on employment, many of our single parent households often become our low-income working families. These services are designed to help parents locate affordable quality care to support their efforts toward greater self-sufficiency.
Provides for intense home visiting and support services for first-time moms, utilizing a nationally successful, evidence-based model developed by the Nurse-Family Partnership. Program allows nurses to deliver the support first-time moms need to have a healthy pregnancy, become knowledgeable and responsible parents, and provide their babies with the best possible start in life.
Empowering fathers and strengthening families by providing a 13 week development group of fathers supporting fathers, understanding child development, employer networking (to gain professional references)and employment resources. Workshop includes guest speakers on all topics while mentoring men to become better fathers. Families with children who need daycare may benefit from this child-centered, family-focused, childcare assistance program. The Department of Social Services provides child daycare assistance for children attending center-based and home-based programs licensed or registered with the Virginia Department of Social Services.
Provides intensive in-home family support services for at-risk first-time parents, beginning prenatally and continuing until the child is five years of age. The goals of the program are to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect through services designed to: improve maternal and child health, facilitate healthy child development, build constructive and positive parenting and assist parents with the assessment and identification of appropriate community resources. Healthy Families America is a national program model designed to help expectant and new parents get their children off to a healthy start. Families participate voluntarily in the program and receive home visiting and referrals from trained staff. The program has three goals: to promote positive parenting, to encourage child health and development and to prevent child abuse and neglect.

The Women, Infants and Children Program is a special supplemental food program for women who are pregnant, post-partum or breast feeding; infants up to 2 years of age; and children up to 5 years of age.

Programs offers: Healthy Families is a home based family support for expectant and new parents and individualized parenting education; to include support and referral. In addition, program offers Infant Play Group where babies up to twelve months growth/development information, socialization with other parents.
An in-home visiting program matches experienced mothers with pregnant teenagers to help provide guidance as they make the adjustment to motherhood.

Educates parents-to-be about newborn care, infant feeding and needs, pediatric care, adjustments to parenthood, newborn clothing and equipment, day care and newborn safety. Several classes are available, preparation for childbirth, breastfeeding, tour for expectant parents, and basics in baby care. Fees waived if on Medicaid or having financial difficulties. Mentor program for pregnant teens. These adult role models have successfully raised their own children and assist the teen throughout her pregnancy and up to the baby's first birthday.
Provide year-round academic support to children in grades 1 - 12 living in the Arlandria-Chirilagua community. Daily, nutritious meals are part of the program. Students receive an average of 350 hours of academic and general support annually. Services included are an afterschool program, mentoring, and summer program.
