Providing care and adoption of "unwanted" companion animals through: "no-kill" adoption center, foster care networks, satellite adoption venues, and Kitten & Puppy Rescue/Transport Programs; by funding veterinary services and education programs; and, by controlling over-population through low-cost Spay-Neuter-Vaccinate and Feral Cat Trap/Neuter/Release programs.

A group of volunteers providing regular open visitation hours to the public in hopes of increasing the chances that the shelter animals of Giles County will be adopted instead of euthanized. The Giles County Animal Shelter is under jurisdiction of Giles County Sheriff Department. Volunteers at the shelter at the invitation of the Giles County Board of Supervisors, the Sheriff's Dept and Giles County Animal Control. Offers low cost spay/neuter and placement services for pets. Giles County Animal Shelter Call the shelter directly at 540-921-2053. The physical address for the Giles County Animal Shelter is 678 Green Hollow Rd, Pearisburg, Virginia 24136. The shelter is open Monday-Saturday 12pm-4pm or by appointment with an Animal Control Officer. Officers may be paged through their dispatch by calling 540-921-3842. Adoptions during the week are done by appointment only.

Enforces the City animal control ordinances and all other state laws and city ordinances. Officers are certified police officers and possess certifications in euthanasia. Officers also perform the deer reduction program. This unit operates the Salem Animal Shelter. Animal Control Deputies enforce animal laws and regulations of the State and County. Duties include answering citizen complaints, catching stray, dangerous or destructive dogs, investigating livestock damage or death for compensation claims, investigating possible animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment, assisting other law enforcement agencies, Conservation Police and Fire & Rescue personnel with animal related calls, maintaining the Animal Shelter and euthanizing animals when necessary

The Animal Shelter is the physical facility servicing lost, abandoned, stray and surrendered pets in Loudoun County.
