Petersburg Animal Control and Shelter is a city governed animal control facility and open door public shelter.

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria operate the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter, an open-admission facility accepting any and all animals brought to us from within the jurisdiction. AWLA have made a commitment to help animals in need with the help of the community. AWLA care for more than 2,000 animals per year, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, iguanas and chinchillas. Specially-trained staff also assist area wildlife that have been injured or are in distress, with the ultimate goal of releasing them back into their natural habitat or transferring them to licensed wildlife rehabilitators for care and eventual release.
The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is a open-access, municipal shelter. The shelter provides a safe-haven for dogs, cats, and small animals like guinea pigs, rabbits and pet birds. At any given time, visitors to the adoption center can meet cats and kittens, dogs and puppies, and dozens of small animals, all available for adoption.

All of these animals need someone with whom to share their lives. Appropriate homes are located for these animals after the animals receive necessary medical attention and are spayed/neutered. Adoptions are currently done at Fairlakes PetSmart & Potomac Yards PetSmart. Also offers spay/neuter assistance to individuals. The Madison County Humane Society needs you! Donate money or time to help the homeless animals in Madison County.
The Orange County Virginia Animal Shelter houses unwanted, lost or abandoned animals. Provides safe haven and vet care for hundreds of animals of all ages and descriptions each year. When funds are available, offer spay/neuter certificates that help pay for spaying and neutering pets. Please contact the shelter directly to see if these funds are available. Volunteers needed.to come every day, once a week or once a month. Donations of canned dog and cat food, rawhides, chew chips, dog biscuits, and plastic cat toys are always greatly appreciated.
