The Animal Control unit is responsible for enforcing state laws and local ordinances within Roanoke County. Officers are certified Police Officers with specialized training and equipment to handle animal related complaints.

Responds to emergencies, such as rabid animals and bite cases, handles stray or dangerous animals and offers pets for adoption at the local shelter.

Receives stray and owner relinquished animals from Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Botetourt County and the Town of Vinton and is an open intake facility. Primarily handles stray animals picked up by the Animal Control Officers employed by the municipalities, but also accepts strays that are found, and animals owned, by citizens of the municipalities served. Does NOT have a veterinarian on staff and is unable to provide medical care for pets owned by the public. If a pet is ill or injured, please visit a personal veterinarian. Has an adoption program, works with rescue organizations and has a foster program.

They offer services such as managing dangerous dogs, preventing dogs from running at large, and providing servsafe food protection manager training.

Pet adoption, animal licensing, enforces domestic animal laws, educating public about responsible companion animal ownership, investigates animal cruelty cases, finds homes for homeless animals and humanely euthanizes all unwanted animals.

The City of Fairfax Animal Control enforces city and state animal-related ordinances, ensuring public safety and humane treatment of animals.

Provides animal control services

Investigates violations of animal regulations: animals running loose, creating a nuisance, cruel treatment, vicious animals. Also responds to sick and injured animals (domestic/wild), and animal bites. Issues hunting and shooting permits.

Animal Control Deputies enforce animal laws and regulations of the State and County. Duties include answering citizen complaints, catching stray, dangerous or destructive dogs, investigating livestock damage or death for compensation claims, investigating possible animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment, assisting other law enforcement agencies, Conservation Police and Fire & Rescue personnel with animal related calls, maintaining the Animal Shelter and euthanizing animals when necessary

The department investigates complaints of cruelty to animals, quarantines animals that have bitten humans, provides 24-hour emergency service for injured or stray animals and removes stray dogs and livestock from streets and public areas. The Animal Shelter is operated in accordance with state and local law.

After hours emergency services, animal cruelty investigations, animal sheltering and accepting of strays and owner surrenders, barking dogs and pooper scooper law enforcement, dangerous and vicious dog investigations, dead animal removal, disaster preparedness information, feral cat abatement, leash law enforcement, lost and found animals, pet licensing, rabies control and wildlife assistance.

Provides information on dog licenses, rabies, impoundment, lost pets, adoption, low cost spay/neuter and disaster preparedness. Responds to emergency situations and conducts investigations on crimes against animals and animal bite claims.

Enforces the City animal control ordinances and all other state laws and city ordinances. Officers are certified police officers and possess certifications in euthanasia. Officers also perform the deer reduction program. This unit operates the Salem Animal Shelter. Animal Control Division strives to promote the safe treatment of animals, to protect those community members who cannot speak for themselves. The Animal Control Officer/Police Officers attempts to educate people about animal rights and available protection services by encouraging spaying and neutering; working to address the problems of abandonment; and looking for ways to redistribute strays into caring homes before those pets are euthanized for lack of space and money.

As an open admission facility, we welcome pets from all Stafford County residents. Our primary goal is to find loving homes for all adoptable animals in our care as swiftly as possible. Additionally, we serve as a temporary home for stray animals discovered within our county, working tirelessly to reunite them with their owners.

Animal Control Services maintains the health, safety and welfare of the community by ensuring compliance of animal care and control ordinances are followed and by assisting residents with the proper tools and information to safely care for their pets. Pittsylvania County Animal Services Officers are appointed conservators of the peace and have enforcement powers concerning animal issues. Pittsylvania County Animal Services Officers handle a wide variety of animal issues, including but not limited to: Dangerous dogs Livestock Loose or stray dogs Upholding state and local animal codes and regulations

Enforce the laws and ordinances of Wythe County and the state of Virginia regarding domesticated animals.

Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC) is an open admission public shelter. RACC provides humane care for stray, injured, lost, abused, and abandoned pets. The Animal Control staff investigates animal cruelty, enforces humane laws, and issues pet licenses. RACC has pets available for adoption.
