The Falls Church Animal Control Officer enforces city and state codes and laws dealing with animals and their control. The Animal Control Officer also investigates cruelty cases and can assist residents with wildlife concerns.
Rescues sick, abandoned, injured, stray, and unwanted animals (except cats); provides 24-hour emergency response. Investigates cases of animal cruelty. Enforces state and local animal-related laws. The Animal Services Unit is charged with protecting animals from inhumane treatment. Animal Services officers enforce state laws and county ordinances as they apply to domestic animals. The unit operates a shelter for the complete care of animals in their custody. The Animal Services Shelter provides comprehensive medical care for homeless or unwanted cats and dogs until they are adopted or placed with an animal rescue organization.
The purpose of the county pound is to impound or harbor seized, stray, homeless, abandoned or unwanted animals. The Animal Control Officers also have responsibility for controlling the spread of rabies within the county.
