The Central Virginia Workforce Development Board (WDB) is the designated regional convener and administrative entity that coordinates workforce training and career services through federal funding from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). We are charged with overseeing and implementing workforce development initiatives and activities throughout the Virginia Career Works – Central Region.

Initial unemployed benefit claims may be filed on the web site or by calling the toll free number. Weekly continued claims may be filed on the web site or by phone using the automated number. Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) empowers individuals with affordable, flexible training that opens doors to high demand jobs and meets the evolving workforce needs of Virginia’s and the region’s economies.

Provides educational services for adults, from basic literacy, GED, high school completion, and workplace credentials.

The centers offer employment guidance, training, and placement services to job seekers and employers throughout the Metro-Richmond region. Information and referrals to community and partner resources are also available to customers.

Virginia Works is the public employment service for all Virginians established to assist workers in finding suitable jobs and to assist employers in finding qualified workers, at no charge to either party. Virginia Works matches job seekers to employer job openings using the Virginia Workforce Connection online system (www.VaWC.virginia.gov), the largest database of employer listings in the Commonwealth. Staff can help with job searching, resumes, and applications, and the office provides a bank of computers for job seekers to use. If you lose your job, Virginia Works can help you with your claim for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits. Claims can be filed online at www.vec.virginia.gov, or by phone at 1-866-832-2363. In all services, Virginia Works gives priority to qualified Veterans. For employers, Virginia Works provides assistance with UI taxes and with recruitment, screening, and referrals of candidates. DBVI provides services and resources which empower individuals who are blind, vision impaired or deafblind to achieve their desired levels of employment, education, and personal independence. Services are provided through 4 main programs: Vocational Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Teaching and Independent Living, Low Vision Services and Education Services. Most services are provided in the person's home, school, or workplace. Referrals are accepted from individuals, families, schools, doctors, and other community partners.

Goodwill operates the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth program for multiple Workforce Investment Areas in Virginia. The program is designed to provide training, employment, and educational opportunities to eligible, in and out of school, youth ages 16 to 24. Eligible youth must be low income and face one or more of the following challenges to successful workforce entry: Basic skills deficient Foster child School dropout Pregnant or parent Homeless or runaway Offender Need help completing an educational program or securing and holding a job The WIOA Youth program will help youth access opportunities for work-based learning, industry recognized credentials, and employment in demand occupations.
