Through the Health Insurance Premium Program (HIPP), the American Kidney Fund pays Part B Medicare, Medigap, commercial, and COBRA premiums for dialysis patients who have insufficient income and savings. These premium payments allow patients to continue their health insurance coverage, enabling access to physician care and medical treatment. HIPP is funded 100% by voluntary contributions from dialysis providers. HIPP serves as a last resort & source of financial assistance.

Healthy Families provides voluntary, comprehensive home-visiting services that support at-risk expectant and new parents and help prevent poor childhood outcomes. Home visits are activity-based and focus on a variety of topics including healthy family functioning, family goal planning, maternal and child health, positive parenting strategies, child development, and school readiness. Trained Cancer Information Specialists can answer questions 24 hours a day, every day of the year to empower you with accurate, up to date information to help you make educated health decisions.

The Peer Mentor Program provides patients with peer-to-peer learning and support on many aspects of sleep apnea, including use of positive airway pressure (PAP) machines (CPAP, Auto PAP, Bilevel PAP).

The HEAL Program Literacy for Life provides an 8-week course for both ABE and ESOL adults that increases their knowledge of current healthcare topics, medical terminology, standard processes and practices. Depending on the learning level of the student, HEAL courses are taught at three different levels (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced). Students learn to: Describe symptoms to a doctor Read and understand medication instruction Know when to use Urgent Care instead of Emergency Room Understand and fill out medical forms Ask medical staff questions to understand what the diagnosis, prescription and next steps are Identify lifestyle changes to improve health Literacy for Life also provides HEAL training to medical staff that raises awareness about the issue of low health literacy and gives practical tools and strategies for working with patients that can be used immediately. The presentation is interactive, engaging, and packed with information. The Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP) educates, counsels, and assist older consumer on medical benefits programs, long-term care insurance, and problems with Medicare, Medicaid, and medical bills paying.

Free counseling on Medicare, Medigap, Medicaid, LTC, HMO's, fraud, abuse, and assists with understanding and completing health insurance or related forms. Counselors will travel to client's home. VICAP will maintain records for clients on an on-going basis.

Provides online information on promoting communication for people with hearing loss. Provide a list financial assistance resources for hearing technology and support services that are not covered by insurance.
