Mental Health Skill Building (MHSS) is a program for those individuals who suffer from mental illness and lack basic living skills, those who need connections to community resources and require help in managing their psychiatric symptoms. CCCS will develop individualized support plans that are specific to the client’s needs, a plan with an emphasis on managing psychiatric symptoms and establishing consistent medication management.

Offers life skills training and socialization programs for deaf and developmentally disabled individuals. Also offers vocational training, which enables members to develop basic work skills in collating, labeling, folding, and other bulk mailing tasks through participation in sheltered workshops. Work is contracted for fees from which members are paid. Provides one-on-one with staff on individual goals such as learning one's name in sign language and how to write one's address.

Provides a Center for Independent Living in which individuals with disabilities can access training in any skill necessary to live in the community. Independence is gained through instruction in activities of daily living, and through social skills training and recreational opportunities.

Elmtree is a group home for individuals 18+ who have an intellectual disability and other secondary disabilities, such as emotional/behavioral problems or physical disabilities. Elmtree provides access to social and recreational activities and makes available religious and employment opportunities in the community or at home. The application process includes providing credit references, housing references, verification of income and disability. Renters must meet all VHDA requirements and sign a one-year lease. Elmtree has available staff on-site 24 hours a day.

Fosters a community environment in which people with disabilities can achieve their maximum level of independence. Offers advocacy, information and referral, peer counseling, independent living skills training, transition services for youth, transition services for people with disabilities residing in nursing facilities, assistance devices & accessible home modifications such as ramps and grab bars. Offers community education as well as personal technical assistance on accessibility.

Programs Community Engagement The Community Engagement program provides opportunities for participants to directly interact with people who do not have disabilities in naturally occurring community settings. While in the community, program participants are supported and encouraged to learn and understand how to successfully engage in each activity with the goal of developing interdependent relationships. Group Day The Group Day Program provides on- and off-site activities that teach individuals to be independent, healthy, and active participants at home and in the community. Didlake work with each participant to develop and meet their specific needs and goals. On-site activities provide opportunities for individuals to participate in wellness-focused classes on exercise, cooking, personal hygiene, and safety. Programs also offer personal growth activities to build communication, socialization, behavior management, self-advocacy, technology, and literacy skills.

The program provides group homes for individuals with mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities, substance use, and co-occurring disorders. Also provides a highly structured program for residents to make progress toward more independent living. It operates 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The program is internally accessible for the handicapped.

Provides community-based case management for individuals affected by brain injury. Case management includes identifying needs and developing a plan of action to meet those needs. Help individuals and their caregivers find their way through the rehabilitation process which can last for years following an injury. After determining what an individual needs and would like to accomplish, we identify and coordinate services to help them reach their goals. Monitor progress toward those goals and build partnerships and teams to create a lasting network for continued support. Primary function is to help individuals affected by brain injury return to their lives - to their homes, careers, school and communities - to the greatest extent possible.

Based on the needs of participants, programs are designed to teach individuals with disabilities the skills necessary for acquiring, maintaining, or increasing their independence. Individual and group training is provided in several categories including: personal assistant management, building self-esteem, money management, navigating ones environment, and self-advocacy. All programs are designed to meet individual needs.

DBVI provides services and resources which empower individuals who are blind, vision impaired or deafblind to achieve their desired levels of employment, education, and personal independence. Services are provided through 4 main programs: Vocational Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Teaching and Independent Living, Low Vision Services and Education Services. Most services are provided in the person's home, school, or workplace. Referrals are accepted from individuals, families, schools, doctors, and other community partners.

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services provides assistance to individuals recovering from mental illness through case management, supported living, intensive community treatment, and a "clubhouse" program. For routine Intakes, individuals are encouraged to call the main telephone number and request an Intake and Assessment.

The Harmony Day Support Program provides structured day placement and training for individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities who may not be eligible for other training programs but who could benefit from social skills, pre-vocational and instrumental activities of daily living training. The goal of Harmony Day Support is to: Utilize community supports and services such as educational programs, contract work, recreational centers and public libraries. Develop social, recreational and leisure activity skills. Develop functional skills. Increase the individual's integration into the community. Teach individual's effective ways to interact in his/her environment. Develop self-esteem and self-worth. Develop friendships. Experience work-based opportunities

Provides services to help prevent and treat Intellectual Disabilities and to enhance the quality of life of individuals who experience these conditions in the Cities of Buena Vista and Lexington and the Counties of Rockbridge and Bath, Virginia by providing individualized treatments, establishing and expanding programs and support systems, and promoting integration into the community.
