The 111-bed unit provides inpatient rehabilitation and recovery care for those unable to receive rehab at home, who may or may not have a condition severe enough to enter long-term care. The medical staff see patients 18 and older with a variety of conditions, including orthopedic injuries and stroke. The DARS Community Rehabilitation Case Management Services (CRCMS) Program assists people with severe physical and sensory disabilities to build a quality of life of their choosing through self-direction, support, and community resources. CRCMS Rehabilitation Specialists provide individualized long-term case management to people across the Commonwealth, as well as outreach and support services to residents of nursing facilities. The Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired (VRCBVI) helps people who are blind or vision impaired learn skills to live and work independently in a residential training facility. We believe that blindness should not stop anyone from having a job or living a full life. Our training programs focus on building confidence, independence, and self-sufficiency. Students learn important daily living and mobility skills in a supportive environment that encourages teamwork and open communication. Training is customized to meet each person's goals, and we also offer group programs like the LIFE program for teens and young adults and the Senior Retreat for people age 55 and older.
