A voluntary program that provides a family with a home visitor that answers questions, calm fears, provide development and health information, support, and connect parents with resources located in their community. Assists parents in discovering ways to help their child be the very best that he or she can be. Holds parent "Get-togethers" that are educational and fun activities, a chance to meet other first-time parents, on-site childcare available if needed during the meeting. Transportation provided or arranged to doctor visits, parent "get-togethers," other important appointments.

Mentoring - Radford, Resource Mothers, Radford City Health Department

Teenagers who are pregnant or parenting their first newborn are eligible to receive adult mentoring services from women who have raised children of their own. Mentors reinforce basic health education related to pregnancy and parenting such as nutrition, infant growth and development, coping skills, and the importance of receiving health care services for themselves and for their infants. Resource Mothers help young parent(s) keep medical appointments, develop plans for the baby's care, stay in school or continue working, delay repeat pregnancies until adulthood, and solve the myriad of day to day problems involved in being a new parent.
