Communicable Disease Health department offices provide assistance and referral for those exposed to tuberculosis.

Services include screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow up of people exposed to specific diseases such as tuberculosis (TB), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS (including PrEP), food borne illnesses, etc. Information is given regarding preventing disease, recognizing symptoms, and obtaining treatment.

The goal of the tuberculosis control program is to prevent the spread of the disease tuberculosis in the community by identifying illness, providing treatment, and taking actions to prevent the spread of disease. The Health Department provides a full range of services including physician diagnosis and treatment, testing, medications, and careful oversight of disease treatment. For those diagnosed with TB or a Latent TB Infection, the TB team collaborates with a patient's medical provider to provide tuberculosis case management to include the provision of medication and care coordination. In addition, the TB team assists with identifying associated cases, the testing of contacts, transportation for CXRs and home visits to deliver medication to perform Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) and Directly Observed Preventative Therapy (DOPT).

Investigates unusual numbers or circumstances of a variety of certain illnesses and conditions, which are reported to the health department. By law, several infectious communicable diseases and certain other conditions must be reported by local physicians, hospitals, and labs. A team of Environmental Health Specialists, Public Health Nurses, Epidemiologists, and the Physician Health Director leads these investigations. When outbreaks are believed to be food or water borne, identification and testing of the potential sources in food and water may be conducted in order to identify the cause of the illness. Education of the public is provided to minimize risk of future outbreaks. Advise potentially rabies exposed persons, in consultation with their physician and the Health Director, regarding post-exposure treatment. Whenever a human being sustains an exposure to a mammal in such a manner as rabies is a concern the health department should be notified as soon as possible after the exposure occurs. May assist in providing pre-exposure treatment for rabies to persons potentially at-risk to occupational exposure to rabies.

Offers skin testing for TB (PPD test) for children, as well as chest x-ray for follow-up on positive skin tests and tuberculosis cases.
