We also inspect and/or permit daycare and adult care facilities, school cafeterias, restaurants, hotels/motels, bed and breakfasts, festival and fair vendors, campgrounds, summer camps, migrant labor camps, and marinas. Additionally, we investigate animal bites and/or potential rabies exposures and certain environmental complaints.

This program protects and improves the health of the community through comprehensive efforts to prevent, control, and eradicate communicable disease. Eliminates environmental health hazards, and recognizes, prevents, and controls occupational health hazards and illnesses.

Provides environmental and health services for area residents. This includes well and septic permits, food safety inspections, family planning, STD treatments, immunizations, communicable disease investigations, HIV/AIDS testing, care and supportive services, and women, infants and children (WIC) nutrition services.

Supervises licensing and bonding of septic tank contractors. Establishes fees and lot size requirements. Performs percolation tests, soil evaluation and small sewage plant inspections. Reviews site plans and inspects systems under construction. Issues permits for well construction. collects water samples for chemical and bacteriological test; licenses and bonds well drillers; inspects water supply systems and investigates complaints.

Out-patient surgical services

Provides comprehensive, primary health care to individuals and families in need of its services. Care includes infant and child care, adolescent medicine, primary gynecology, adult primary care, geriatrics, preventive health care, and minor surgery.

Care available at Clinch River Health Services includes prenatal care, infant and child care, adolescent medicine, primary gynecology, general internal medicine, geriatrics, preventive health care, minor surgery, and behavioral health services. Telemedicine services are available onsite at the center through the University of Virginia's Telemedicine Program. Several specialty services are available through this program. Provides access to medicines for patients free of charge through the pharmaceutical companies indigent programs. Patients must meet eligibility requirements of the individual companies. A Family Dental Program is available to eligible patients. The program uses funding obtained through the Southwest Virginia United Way and other sources. Services are provided by Dr. Mark Copas in Castlewood. Services provided include emergency services, extractions, fillings, and cleanings. Call the office number if interested.

Resource Centers are health clinics with a variety of services available in public housing communities. All services are offered to anyone, and cost is based on a financial eligibility sliding scale. The Resource Centers also refer and connect patients to primary care providers and other community services, empowering residents to get connected to the care they need.
