Adult Education/GED - Lebanon, Southwest Regional Adult Education

Offers free basic skills instruction to adult students,18 and older, living in the counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, and Tazewell in Virginia. Programs are designed to meet the needs of adults who have not completed high school. Classes are offered in Adult Basic Education/Pre-GED and GED preparation. All classes are free and are conveniently located throughout the region. Offer several certification classes including CNA, Welding, Paraprofessional and ServSafe. Also offer workforce preparation classes, financial literacy, computer skills and the National Career Readiness Certificate.

Youth Services - Chantilly, LIFT Program, CRi

The purpose of LIFT is to provide apartment-based Independent Living and Support Services to help foster care youth, ages 17-21, transition from residential care to independent living. Youth receive housing, vocational and educational services, life skills training, therapeutic services (counseling, therapy and/or substance abuse education), and the development of a network of support services in the community. LIFT is licensed for 25-beds for males & females transitioning from the foster care system to independent living in the community.

Youth Work Experience Coaches to Ensure Success The Goodwill Youth Work Experience program provides work experience and vocational activities to youth, ages 14 to 21, who are economically disadvantaged and at-risk. The program focuses on areas such as developing work maturity skills, writing a resume, interview skills, problem solving skills, and support services. Youth are referred to the Youth Work Experience program by community and state agencies or the local school systems. The program is funded through the Children's Services Act (CSA) and local or state government. The Youth Work Experience program provides: Paid work experience Transportation Leadership development Supportive services Occupational training skills Follow-up services Benefits of the Program Work within the home community leads to understanding of the importance of giving back. Referral from appropriate agency ensures program outcomes match with youth's needs. Provided transportation ensures participation. Paid community work experience is an educational stipend. Four to one ratio ensures personalized attention. Services are provided as needed in a variety of community settings at times that are agreeable to the youth and his/her family.
