General Adult Education (GAE) provides instructional services to Charlottesville, Albemarle County and other Central Virginia residents who are working toward a high school diploma. An after-school program providing tutoring in reading and other subjects as needed to children living in Gilpin Court and neighboring communities.

Laurel Ridge Community College Adult Education serves the region with FREE classes that help students improve academic, English language (ESL), and workplace skills. Classes are held at local schools, churches, and libraries throughout the region.

Provide free books to educators and families of the 757 through partnerships and our Big Free Book Store. Provides a reading program for children who are living in shelters. Volunteers spend about an hour with the children in the shelters, reading to them and doing a support activity.

BEACON offers in-person English and Citizenship classes both in the morning and in the evening. Classes are 12 weeks and site locations include: Bethel Lutheran Church and Manassas Baptist Church. Students must come to an in-person registration to enroll in online classes.

Beginning-level English classes teach the foundation skills adult English language learners (ELLs) need to learn to speak, understand, read, and write English. Offered at several locations through the region, classes are held at least two nights a week for two hour class sessions and are closed enrollment. The curriculum focuses on American culture and life skills important to the workplace, community, and family, which includes an introduction to technology through blended learning.
