Garden of Hope Adult Basic Education (ABE)program provides free instruction in all subjects covered on the General Education Development (GED)exam. This includes morning and evening classes, free books and materials, pretesting, practice GED tests, post-GED test guidance and a convenient testing center. This program is open to the public.

Program participants are given the opportunity to: obtain a GED, enroll at Thomas Nelson Community College and earn up to 5 college credits, earn a Virginia's Career Readiness Certificate (bronze, sliver or gold) credential, obtain short-term occupational training (Welding, HVAC, Medical Coding, Automotive, Carpentry, and many more), enhance basic workplace readiness skills.

Middle Peninsula Regional Adult Continuing Education provides instruction to adults to improve basic academic skills (reading, writing, and math), GED Preparation (for high school equivalency) and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Middle Peninsula Regional Adult & Career Education (R.A.C.E.) is a Consortium made up of the public school systems in the counties of Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews, and Middlesex, and the Town of West Point. It is one of the 22 Federal and State funded adult basic education programs serving the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Provides an Adult education at VVTC that encourages numerous kinds of training. Included under the adult training umbrella are; day and evening training in agriculture, business, health occupations and trade and industrial areas. The Center is the regional related instruction center for the Virginia Apprenticeship Training program. The Center has numerous training relationships with area businesses and industries. In keeping with the overall mission of Valley Vocational-Technical Center, the adult program strives to offer up-to-date training in keeping with community demands. The success of the program is evident by the average annual adult enrollment the center experiences. Many employees in local businesses, industries, and agencies received their job training at Valley Vocational-Technical Center. Local businesses and industries continue to be highly involved in the on-going development of the adult program. The ever-increasing level of technology demanded by today's work-place spells a bright future for adult training at VVTC. The Powhatan County Public School System has an adult education program that is available to any adult who is 18 and over and who is a resident of Powhatan County. There is also a Senior School designed to meet the needs and interests of the senior adults residing in Powhatan County.
