Half-day programs are offered for children ages 2-5. Based on the Creative Curriculum, these programs address social, emotional, physical, cognitive and language development, embracing hands-on learning through play. Structured activities help children bond with peers and caring adults while they prepare for kindergarten.

Preschool classes are offered for 2 year olds, 3 year olds, and 4 year olds. We provide Monday through Friday classes for all age groups. In addition, a Tuesday/Thursday class is offered for 2 year olds and a Monday/Wednesday/Friday class for 3 year olds. We offer two sessions of programming: the school year (September - June) and summer camp (June - August) After school care is offered for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade who attend Chittum Elementary, Western Branch Primary, and Western Branch Intermediate. Public school Kindergarten care is available before school (7:00-7:30 am) and after school (2:45-6:00 pm). Kindergarten care is not available during public school hours.

Preschool program runs concurrent with the Augusta County school calendar and is a full day program, 5 days a week except for one Friday of each month. This Friday is used for screenings, teacher trainings and home visits. Assessments for math and literacy are completed three times throughout the year to track students' progress and ensure preparedness for kindergarten. Head Start is a national child development program for children from birth to age 5, which provides services to promote academic, social and emotional development for income-eligible families.

RHCDC offers Preschool for children ages three through Pre-K and After-School Care, Summer Camp and Drop-In Care programs for school age students in the cities of Roanoke and Salem, Roanoke County and local private schools. Small class and group sizes allow staff to spend more individualized time with students.

Provides a preschool program for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Follows the standards of the nationally recognized Creative Curriculum. Children from all backgrounds and income levels are welcome. Partial preschool tuition scholarships are available. The Helen Day Preschool Academy is a NAEYC accredited program.

Heritage Child Development operates a preschool for ages 2 1\2 through 5 years of age and a before & after school program through 5th grade. Operate year round, with a full time summer schedule for preschool through elementary 5th grade. Heritage Child Development Center is a private non-profit Christian Ministry of Culpeper Assembly of God.

This initiative serves at-risk four year olds who are not being served by Head Start. Students must be four years old by September 30 in order to be eligible for the program. The Sprout School provides a full or part-day, high-quality early childhood education for toddlers and young children ages 3 through 5 years. The emphasis is to provide a stimulating and educational experience that promotes every child's social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Preschool curriculum promotes kindergarten readiness through language, literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, world languages, art, music, creative movement, dramatic play, and technology. Programing is enhanced by project-based learning, an outside discovery center, and Tucker Signing Strategies for reading.

Pre-K classrooms are located in all elementary schools. Children are screened and served by rank order. Each classroom has one teacher, one assistant and a maximum of 16 children. The pre-k classrooms operate the same hours as grades K-5.

Preschool program designed to meet the needs of 4 year old students who are considered to be at risk. The program offers early intervention in a positive, structured learning environment that includes parental involvement and support.
