CVACL partners with the Virginia Legal Aid Society to provide older adults with legal advice and representation for civil (not criminal) matters, such as wills and power of attorney.

Guardianship Services (Public and Private) In the absence of appropriate family or friends, Family Service is appointed by the court as guardian/conservator responsible for the personal and financial affairs of the client. Service Fees Insurance, Medicare and Medicaid are accepted for some programs. Services may be offered on a subsidized basis to those without insurance. Provides free, legal assistance to elderly, disabled, or low-income individuals and families who face the loss of a critical need such as personal safety, income, housing, medical benefits, education or family stability. LSNV provides services in a variety of substantive civil legal areas, including: family law, housing law, elder law, public benefits claims, access to health care, child advocacy, employment law, consumer law and AIDS/HIV issues. Staff and volunteers provide legal advice, brief service, and representation in administrative hearings and in court, as well as community legal education, and advocacy before local and state governmental entities, all without charge.

The Legal Aid Justice Center partner with tenants and community organizations to fight for affordable housing, reasonable housing conditions, racial justice in housing, and equitable housing policies. Services include representing tenants facing eviction and in other landlord/tenant disputes, organizing with tenants experiencing unfair conditions, and advocating for better housing policies across the state. We have a particular focus on supporting tenants in public housing.

Responsible for the administration of two major types of abandoned property programs: personal property and real property. The Unclaimed Property Act establishes the Commonwealth as custodian of certain personal properties (both intangible and tangible) until the owners can be located. Promotes compliance with the Uniform Disposition of Unclaimed Property Act and Escheats Generally Statute, thereby enabling the return of unclaimed property to the rightful owners and the return of abandoned real property to an active tax status within the state.

Provides legal services to low income residents who cannot afford attorney services/fees, in certain types of civil cases. Types of cases that are handled: housing, health care, economic self-sufficiency, education, public benefits, consumer purchases and family relations.

Promotes the welfare of the job seekers, wage earners, and retirees of the United States by improving their working conditions, advancing their opportunities for profitable employment, protecting their retirement and health care benefits, helping employers find workers, strengthening free collective bargaining, and tracking changes in employment, prices, and other national economic measurements. In carrying out this mission, the Department administers a variety of Federal labor laws including those that guarantee workers' rights to safe and healthful working conditions; a minimum hourly wage and overtime pay; freedom from employment discrimination; unemployment insurance; and other income support.
