CVACL partners with the Virginia Legal Aid Society to provide older adults with legal advice and representation for civil (not criminal) matters, such as wills and power of attorney.

The Legal Aid Justice Center partner with tenants and community organizations to fight for affordable housing, reasonable housing conditions, racial justice in housing, and equitable housing policies. Services include representing tenants facing eviction and in other landlord/tenant disputes, organizing with tenants experiencing unfair conditions, and advocating for better housing policies across the state. We have a particular focus on supporting tenants in public housing.

Receives and investigates charges of job discrimination. Enforces laws to prevent discrimination by employers, labor unions or employment agencies when applying for a job or while on the job because of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, or disability. Offers mediation as an alternative to the traditional investigative or litigation process. All laws enforced by EEOC, except the Equal Pay Act (EPA), require filing a charge with EEOC before a private lawsuit may be filed in court.

The Commonwealth Attorney's Office prosecutes felonies and misdemeanors that occur in King George County. The prosecution takes place in three courts: Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, General District Court and Circuit Court. The Commonwealth Attorney's Office also administers the Victim/Witness Assistance Program.

CTLP provides free legal representation in tax disputes, educates taxpayers about their rights and responsibilities, and identifies and advocates for issues that impact low-income taxpayers.

Guardianship Services (Public and Private) In the absence of appropriate family or friends, Family Service is appointed by the court as guardian/conservator responsible for the personal and financial affairs of the client. Service Fees Insurance, Medicare and Medicaid are accepted for some programs. Services may be offered on a subsidized basis to those without insurance. Provides low-cost, confidential legal assistance to University of Virginia students. We provide legal help on a wide variety of legal matters, including representation in Charlottesville/Albemarle area courts. No fee is charged for consultations. All fees are minimal. Student Legal Services can help with legal matters in many areas, such as consumer, contracts, crime victim, criminal charges, debt collection, no-fault divorce, employment, expungement of criminal charges, insurance, landlord/tenant, name change, student non-profit organizations, traffic violations, and wills.

Provides a chief prosecuting officer for Buchanan County who is responsible for initiating charges and prosecuting people, including juveniles, who have been accused of felony and misdemeanor offenses; and looking into allegations of major fraud, organized criminal activity and corruption and unlawful conduct by public officials.

Provides a City and County public defenders office that offers legal representation for all persons, including juveniles, with a criminal charge against them, who are financially unable to furnish counsel for proceedings.

Provides a non-profit law and advocacy organization established and directed by American Indians. We provide legal assistance to Indian and Alaska Native nations who are working to protect their lands.

Provides services to help people who are no longer able to work due to physical and/or mental impairments obtain Social Security disability benefits. We will evaluate your chances of winning a SSA approval, fill out and submit all forms with questionnaires, collect all medical documentation, respond to all SSA's request for materials, develop strategy and prepare formal reports and represent claimant at hearings. Also help you to access social services while your claim is pending.

LAWS Legal Services provides legal consultation and representation to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking who need assistance obtaining a protective order or with other family law issues. All services are confidential and free of charge.
