Missing Persons - DC, International Tracing Services, American Red Cross Headquarters

Provides international information and referral for Family Tracing Services when families have been separated as a result of either armed conflict or disaster. As much as possible, families should have tried normal channels of communication before requesting Red Cross tracing services. The family member making the inquiry must be a close family relative who has been in direct contact with the sought person before the conflict or disaster occurred and must provide essential information on the sought person. Senior Alert - Richmond, Virginia State Police

Tool for Virginia law enforcement agencies to assist with locating missing senior adults. In order for Senior Alert to be activated: *Individuals whereabouts must be unknown. *Individual is over 60 years of age. *Individual suffers cognitive impairment to extent that he/she is unable to care for themselves without assistance (including a diagnosis of Alzheimer's or dementia). *Individuals disappearance poses credible threat to his/her health and safety as determined by law-enforcement. Other criteria: *Law enforcement investigation has verified individual is missing and eliminated alternative explanations. *Sufficient information regarding missing individual is available to disseminate to public. *Missing senior adult must be entered into Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN), the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) missing person files and information reported to the Virginia Missing Person Information Clearinghouse. *Photograph of individual must be provided to Virginia Missing Person Information Clearinghouse. If all of above criteria are not met, Virginia "Senior Alert" Plan will not be activated; however, information may still be provided to media.

Missing Children Clearinghouse - North Chesterfield, Virginia State Police

The Clearinghouse operates as Virginia's center for missing children administered through the Virginia Department of State Police. The clearinghouse is linked to all Virginia law enforcement agencies through the Virginia Criminal Information Network, the FBI, all U.S. police agencies through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and all children's clearinghouses through computer hookups with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Missing Children Support - Richmond, Catena L. Parker Foundation For Missing Children

The program offers assistance and emotional support to families of missing children. The program objectives are to prevent and reduce the number of missing children. The Child Identification Program photographs children. Provides two flyers, Facts Sheet On Loved One for parents to list vital information on their children, and What To Do If A Child Is Missing giving step by step instructions to follow if a child is missing. The foundation distributes flyers, assists in searches, and helps keep the public aware of the missing child. The support group meets the first Saturday of each month call (804)920-7675 for location of meeting.

Project Lifesaver - Boydton, Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office

Project Lifesaver is an active response to the problem of locating wandering persons before they become victims. Project Lifesaver relies on pulse-carrier wave radio-frequency technology, complemented by a search and rescue team that has received specialized training. People who use the program wear a personalized wristband that emits a tracking signal. When caregivers notify the local Project Lifesaver agency that the person is missing and a search and rescue team responds to the wanderer's area to begin the search.

Project Lifesaver assists families and caregivers of individuals with autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, Alzheimer's disease and related conditions and disabilities. Project Lifesaver clients wear a wrist or ankle band that emits a silent tracking signal. When caregivers notify the Sheriff's Office that a loved one is missing, a search and rescue team comprised of specifically trained sheriff's deputies responds to the area with tracking equipment.

Hotline Child Missing - Alexandria, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children

Provides nationwide services for families, law enforcement and other professionals in the prevention of cases of abducted, endangered and sexually exploited children. Serves as a clearing house for missing and exploited children. Also offers a National Emergency Child Locator Center: In the event of a natural disaster, the National Emergency Child Locator Center will: * Establish a toll-free hotline to receive reports of displaced children; * Create a website to provide information about displaced children; * Deploy staff to the location of a declared disaster area to gather information about displaced children; * Provide information to the public about additional resources; * Partner with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies; and * Refer reports of displaced adults to the Attorney General's designated authority and the National Emergency Family Registry and Locator System.
