The Richmond Juvenile Detention Center (RJDC) is a secure facility which serves both males and females in the service area of the City of Richmond. The facility is designed to provide safe temporary custody of pre-dispositional residents who are accused of conduct subject to the jurisdiction of the court, pending adjudication and/or disposition of charges placed against them. The Richmond Juvenile Detention Center provides a wide range of helpful services that support the resident's physical, emotional, mental and social development. Additional services include, but are not limited to education, recreation, counseling, nutrition, medical/health care services, reading, visitation, communication and continuous supervision of residents.

A hierarchy structure is utilized within the community to create accountability and responsibility for the inmate population. Currently, Indian Creek Correctional Center is one of the largest prison-based Therapeutic Communities in the nation.

Offers a home electronic monitoring program (H.E.M.) that uses state-of-the-art Radio Frequency (RF) Monitoring to track non-violent offenders. Through a Work Release Program, participants are housed at the jail throughout their tenure on the program. Each individual is monitored and is subject to random drug testing. Provides various programs to inmates on an equal basis. Currently, program offerings include the following: Alcoholics Anonymous, Anger Management Classes, GED Classes, Substance Abuse Classes, Workforce Readiness Classes, and Various Religious Programs. Participation is voluntary.

Correctional Center for Adolescents - Richmond, Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center, Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice

Serves a coed population, males age 14 -18 and females age 11-20, who have been committed by the juvenile court. Residents placed at the facility have been convicted of crimes ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. Lengths of commitment may range from a minimum of 3-6 months to a maximum of 7 years or until the resident's 21st birthday. Residents receive educational, vocational, mental health and rehabilitative counseling services. Specialized treatment programs include substance abuse, aggression management, sex offender, and intensive therapeutic programming. Academic and vocational training is provided on campus by the Department of Correctional Education. Residents are able to earn a high school diploma or GED. Recreation, religious and volunteer programming is also provided.
