Programs and services for detained youth; ensures public safety while preparing the youth to re-enter the community. Educational programs for academic credits, GED, and other educational needs provided by Norfolk Public Schools.

A male field unit correctional facility. Security Level 1 - Assignment Criteria: No Murder I or II; Sex offense, Kidnap/Abduction, Escape History. No Disruptive Behavior for at least past 24 months.

Houses male and female inmates at the maximum, medium and minimum security levels.

Serves a coed population, males age 14 -18 and females age 11-20, who have been committed by the juvenile court. Residents placed at the facility have been convicted of crimes ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. Lengths of commitment may range from a minimum of 3-6 months to a maximum of 7 years or until the resident's 21st birthday. Residents receive educational, vocational, mental health and rehabilitative counseling services. Specialized treatment programs include substance abuse, aggression management, sex offender, and intensive therapeutic programming. Academic and vocational training is provided on campus by the Department of Correctional Education. Residents are able to earn a high school diploma or GED. Recreation, religious and volunteer programming is also provided.

Provides temporary supervised housing for persons entrusted to the Sheriff's Office's care, to meet their basic human needs, and also provide programs that will assist in helping those persons become a productive part of society upon release from the jail.

Security Level 3 - Assignment Criteria: Single, multiple, and Life + sentences must have served 20 consecutive years on sentence. No disruptive behavior for at least past 24 months prior to consideration for a transfer to any less-secure facility.

A male correctional facility. Security Level 2 - Assignment Criteria: For initial assignment ONLY. No escape history within the past 5 years. Single life sentences must have reached their Parole Eligibility Date (PED). No disruptive behavior for at least past 24 months prior to consideration for a transfer to any less-secure facility.

Provides pre-dispositional secure custody of up to 48 juveniles placed by the J&D and Family Court Services System. Program offers educational, recreational, medical, supervision, and assessment services along with room, board and clothing. Post-Dispositional Alternative Services are available to the court for youth in lieu of commitment to state learning centers.

The jail can hold up to 214 inmates. Inmates have access to an exercise area, a library, a medical facility, classrooms and a laundry room. Has a public safety area that houses the Sheriff's Department and Botetourt County's magistrates, who also serve Craig County.

Operates the Loudoun Adult Detention Center, which houses maximum, medium, and minimum security level inmates. Some inmates may find themselves housed at the facility for up to three years before being delivered to the State Department of Corrections.

The Riverside Regional Jail promotes public safety by providing detention services for incarcerated individuals.

Houses administrative offices, a magistrate's office, public and professional visiting areas, kitchen, laundry, library, classrooms, medical unit, basketball court, two contained outdoor recreation yards, and a secure vehicle sallyport for loading and unloading prisoners. Offers a home electronic monitoring program (H.E.M.) that uses state-of-the-art Radio Frequency (RF) Monitoring to track non-violent offenders. Through a Work Release Program, participants are housed at the jail throughout their tenure on the program. Each individual is monitored and is subject to random drug testing. Provides various programs to inmates on an equal basis. Currently, program offerings include the following: Alcoholics Anonymous, Anger Management Classes, GED Classes, Substance Abuse Classes, Workforce Readiness Classes, and Various Religious Programs. Participation is voluntary.

A jail facility of approximately 264,000 square feet with a rated capacity for 605 inmates with another 200 beds double bunked for a total of 805 inmates. Built by coalition of four localities that formed the Western Virginia Regional Jail Authority which includes the counties of Franklin, Montgomery, and Roanoke and the city of Salem. Houses both male and female inmates who are sentenced waiting for release or transfer to the Dept. of Corrections. Houses overflow inmates from the existing Franklin, Montgomery and Roanoke county jails, to include those with segregation, medical or mental health needs.

CAP Unit was established upon the closure of the RDC. The core functions include the receipt and review of all commitment packets as well as the intake, orientation, and evaluation phase of a resident's direct care admission.
