Vital Statistics - Richmond, Division of Vital Records, Virginia Department of Health

A detailed pre-recorded voice messages listing specific instructions to adhere to in order to obtain certified copies of birth, death, marriage or divorce certificates. Travel instructions to the Division of Vital Records are available by calling the above member. Application for Certification of a Vital Record can be obtained from the Division of Vital Records, your local health department or the website. There are three ways in which to obtain a vital record in Virginia. Choose the method that best suits your needs: (1) Walk-in - Same day service is available to walk-in customers. This is the fastest way to obtain a birth certificate. When you arrive, you will complete an application, pay the $12 required fee, and show the processing clerk a valid photo I.D. (2) Express Service instructions - VitalChek Network - Obtain a certified copy of a birth, death, marriage or divorce certificate within 2-5 days through a courier service. A service charge must be paid by credit card. (3) Mail-in instructions - Turn around is estimated at 5 to 7 business days from the day the request is received. However, people are urged to allow sufficient time for delivery of the vital record. Checks or money orders should be made payable to State Department of Health. A fee of $12.00 is charged for each certification of a vital record or for a search of the files when no certification is made.

Vital Records - Pearisburg, Giles County Health Department

Responsible for registering home births and issuing copies of death certificates to authorized persons as requested. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) compiles, publishes, and maintains statistical data such as births including low birth weight, teenage, etc.; deaths and major causes; marriages and divorces; and incidence of communicable disease.

Vital Records - Newport News, Peninsula Health District

Provides records for deaths filed at the health department in the country or city in which the death occurred, not the country or city in which the person lived. Certified copies can be obtained only by a relative of the deceased or by a representative of a funeral home. The Peninsula Health District has death records on file from 1980 to the present for deaths occurring in Newport News, Williamsburg, Poquoson, James City County and York County. Copies of DEATH records prior to 1980 and all BIRTH records are filed in Richmond and can be obtained by sending the completed request form to the following address: Office of Vital Records P.O. Circuit Court Clerk - Orange, Orange County Circuit Court Clerk

Provides a constitutional official who is elected to an eight-year term by the voters of the locality. The clerk handles administrative matters for the court and also has authority to probate wills and grant administration of estates. The clerk is the custodian of the court records and the clerk's office is where deeds are recorded and marriage licenses are issued. The circuit court is the trial court with the broadest powers in Virginia. The circuit court handles all civil cases with claims of more than $15,000. It shares authority with the general district court to hear matters involving between $4,500 and $15,000. The circuit court has the authority to hear serious criminal cases called felonies. The circuit court also handles family matters, including divorce. In addition, the circuit court hears cases appealed from the general district court and from the juvenile and domestic relations district court.

Vital Records - Clintwood, Dickenson County Health Department

Provides local death certificates and applications for birth certificates. The Customer Service Center in Richmond offers certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates. Vital Records - Hillsville, Carroll County Health Department

Certified copies of birth, marriage and divorce certificates can be obtained from the Mount Rogers Health District health departments for any of these events as long as they occurred in Virginia.
