Local health departments are responsible for registering home births and issuing copies of death certificates to authorized persons as requested. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) compiles, publishes, and maintains statistical data such as births including low birth weight, teenage, etc.; deaths and major causes; marriages and divorces; and incidence of communicable diseases.
