EnergyShare - Montross, Energy Share, Westmoreland Department of Social Services

EnergyShare is a year-round energy assistance program that helps individual and families in need pay their energy bills -- heating and/or cooling. To qualify, you must be in danger of losing or have lost your primary heating source. Fan Care, a component of EnergyShare, provides free fans to income-eligible seniors, age 60 and older, that have a medical condition and need additional cooling equipment for their home.

Wood Program - Richmond, Salvation Army of Central Virginia, The

This program provides free wood to citizens of the Metro Richmond area who qualify based on eligibility criteria. Wood will be delivered to homes that are located within a 12 mile radius of the woodlot in Northside Richmond. In times of wood shortage, priority is given to Richmond City residents and elderly participants. Requests for wood can be made weekly as needed, but wood will not be delivered to homes where there is sufficient wood to last for a week or more. All recipients receive one level truckload of stove-ready wood per delivery.

To be eligible, a household must contain at least one vulnerable individual who is age 60 or over, is living with a disability, or is under age 6. Applications are accepted online,through the Enterprise Customer Service Center, and at local departments of social services from June 15 through August 15. Assistance is based on the availability of funds.
