Bay Transit provides regional public and specialized transportation services to the residents of the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. Services vary depending upon locality.
Provides transportation to area citizens, including those who are disabled, the general public and human service agency clients, daily commuter routes from rural origins, demand-response transportation services to the general public in rural areas, and training for agency drivers which permits agencies to use JAUNT for reduced fee. JAUNT vehicles are equipped with lifts and low steps for persons requiring such features. For Medicaid transportation, clients should contact LogistiCare.

The Smart Way is a commuter bus service that links the Roanoke Valley to the New River Valley. The service begins in downtown Roanoke at Valley Metro's Third Street Station Transportation Center and ends at the Virginia Tech Squires Student Center. The route from the New River Valley to the Roanoke Valley is the exact reverse.Buses are compliant with the American with Disabilities Act of 1993, and 100 percent of the fleet is wheelchair accessible. Commuters who have questions about specific special transportation needs should call our Administrative Office at 540-982-0305, Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm.
