Homes are built by volunteers and homeowners, known as partner families. Homes are sold to partner families with a no interest mortgage. Habitat families are selected: 1) completion of application and credit report, 2) ability to repay zero-interest mortgage, 3) inability to obtain conventional financing for a home, 4) living in substandard housing or homeless, 5) meet income requirements and 6) agree to partner with affiliate. RRHA provides affordable housing for independent living for eligible seniors. RRHA maintains eight buildings for low-income elderly and disabled Richmonders who meet federal and RRHA requirements.

Subsidies can be used to rent all types of housing (i.e., single family homes, duplexes, condominiums, and apartments) provided that Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Quality Standards are met. Loudoun Habitat for Humanity partner with homebuyers, volunteers, donors, businesses and community organizations to transform lives and rebuild communities. Houses are sold at an affordable, no-profit rate to qualified home buyers who earn 30% to 80% of the area median income. Homebuyers complete volunteer hours (sweat equity) and attend classes to learn the skills needed to successfully own and maintain a home for the rest of their lives.

The Housing Choice Voucher program offers qualified applicants rental assistance in the private market. Voucher holders will pay an amount based on the income they receive, and the remainder will be paid to the landlord by us, the Housing Authority. Once you hold a voucher, you may look in the Staunton City or Augusta County area to find a suitable apartment or house within your payment standard. The rent and utilities for a chosen property must both fit within the payment standard when added together. Also administer VASH vouchers specifically for veterans experiencing homelessness.
