Critical and necessary home repairs, free of charge to homeowners in need

Provides critical home repair services to low-to-moderate income homeowners in Franklin County. The purpose is to help homeowners alleviate health and safety issues in and around their home. Eligible repairs include small roof repairs, handicap accessibility, window and door replacement, sidewalk and exterior stair repair, siding repair, electrical, plumbing and water supply and septic systems.

The program is centered around a "blitz" build, held the last Saturday in April, when over 1,000 volunteers each year make both major and minor repairs to qualified homes.

The Emergency Home Accessibility and Repair program assists individuals with repairs and accessibility modifications that are urgent in nature and health and safety related. Frequently requested repairs involve water heaters, heating systems, electrical issues, and plumbing. Accessibiliy installations may include ramps and grab bars. CVACL screens contractors and assigns them to approved projects.

The project:HOMES Home Rehabilitation Program provides moderate home rehabilitation services and emergency home repairs to allow homeowners to age in place. Repairs focus on a home's infrastructure and typically feature repairing or replacing roofs, plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems, and fixing structural problems leading to health and safety hazards.

Administers the Department of Planning and Community Development's Emergency Home Repair Program that provides emergency home repair assistance to low income property owners in the City of Fredericksburg. Services include roofing, plumbing and electrical repairs of an emergency nature for qualifying homeowners.

Provides no-interest, deferred payment loans up to $135,000 (up to $75,000 for condominiums) to address code violations, structural problems, lead remediation, energy efficiency improvements, and other safety and accessibility modifications.
