WARM serves the homeless of Augusta County and Waynesboro, Virginia, through a Cold Weather Shelter at various local churches from November 20th to April.

Provides an overnight shelter for any individuals who would otherwise be outside in freezing temperatures, mid-November through Mid-March. This is not a shelter for families. The shelter is open on the nights when temperatures are low during the winter time period. This is a nighttime only shelter; residents are not permitted to stay during the day or to store possessions at the building. The adult women's location is downtown at FXBG Baptist Church. Transportation is provided from downtown locations each night 6:00-6:30 pm. In order to get on the bus to the Cold Weather Shelter, prospective residents should attend the evening's community meal at one of the downtown churches and wait for the bus at that location. Prospective residents may also provide their own transportation to the Cold Weather Shelter. Do not arrive the Cold Weather Shelter before 6:30 PM each night.

Hypothermia Shelter Services will be provided in the Prince William Area from November 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. These services aim to prevent the loss of life or limb due to extreme cold weather conditions. The Rescue Mission is a low barrier shelter offering meals, a bed, clinic services and more. Intakes are done daily. Extreme Weather Response (Cold, Snow, Ice, Heat) During declared extreme weather conditions, the Rescue Mission activates severe weather protocols. Services may include extended hours and expanded capacity based on conditions and available space.

The Coordinated Entry System (CES) is a process developed to ensure that all people experiencing a housing crisis have fair and equal access to available resources and services. The CES team is trained in crisis response and will identify, assess, refer, and connect households to resources based on their strengths and needs. A dedicated hotline is available to homeless residents and those at risk of being homeless to quickly to connect to help and services, 703-792-3366.

TO OUR HOUSE partners with faith-based and community organizations to provide temporary shelter for SINGLE homeless men and women during winter months (first Saturday in November through end of March). Report daily by 5:30pm to the Intake Center at NRCA; transportation provided to a warm location for the night and return to Intake Center the next morning. Meals provided.

For the coldest weeks of the year, HELP coordinates with over 30 area churches to provide a place that is safe and warm. “A Night’s Welcome” is a nightly shelter, but its location changes throughout the season as area churches open their doors to those in need. With the help of many volunteers and organizations, two hot meals, toiletries, and community are provided for individuals and families that find themselves on the street each winter.

Program that coordinates interfaith congregations located in any area of Newport News to open their parish or social halls and provide food and shelter for individuals or families who would normally spend their nights sleeping on the streets, in cars, or perhaps in empty buildings or in the woods.

Open Doors provides year-round low-barrier emergency shelter at the Navigation Center. The shelter program operates in a congregant setting, with initial admissions first-come, first-served. Significant weather programs are provided only on a night-by-night basis, as the weather warrants, between November and March each year, the traditional thermal season.

Operates as a low barrier warming shelter annually serving homeless adults each year from the end of November until the end of March.

Provides the WATTS program, (Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter) which offers emergency shelter to families and individuals in the City of Winchester and County of Frederick. The program is comprised of various churches who network to provide weekly stays (Monday PM to Monday AM) for those needing emergency shelter during the winter months starting the first week in November through March. The following services are available: cots, shower facilities, laundromat tokens, nursing check-ups and two hot meals (dinner and breakfast). Check website for current schedule.

Winter Shelter provides a safe refuge from illness, injury, and death during inclement weather. This Winter Shelter Collaborative is a partnership funded by the Office of Community Services of the City of Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services - with WS services held from 7pm to 7am November 1st through April 15th. For November and April, the openings are dependent on the weather. Non-City of Alexandria residents will have 1 night of winter shelter available prior to returning to their home jurisdiction.

The Emergency Winter Shelter is open from November 1 through March 31 every year. The EWS is open from 4PM to 9AM. On days when the temperature remains below freezing, the shelter stays open throughout the day.
