The Coordinated Entry System (CES) is a process developed to ensure that all people experiencing a housing crisis have fair and equal access to available resources and services. The CES team is trained in crisis response and will identify, assess, refer, and connect households to resources based on their strengths and needs. Provides overnight shelter, soup kitchen, and emergency assistance for men, women, and families. Shelter operates 7 days a week starting at 6:30PM.

Provides emergency shelter for single men who are homeless. See also Day Services for other services offered at location. Shelter opens at 6 p.m.; first-time clients are eligible for a 7-day stay, first come first served.

Offers transitional housing for adults and children fleeing domestic violence. Families who leave the emergency shelter and desire a supportive living environment have the option of applying for transitional housing apartments before stepping out on their own. The transitional program, Cornerstone, includes seven apartments in a community-style setting. At Cornerstone, staff members work with residents to identify barriers, set goals, and take steps to achieve their aspirations. Counseling, support groups, community resource assistance, legal advocacy, and transportation also are offered to residents.

New River Community Action's Homeless and Housing Programs offer financial services to those at-risk of becoming homeless (Prevention) and those already homeless (Rapid Rehousing) to help them obtain or maintain permanent housing. Clients must meet strict grant criteria to receive financial services through Homeless and Housing Programs and adhere to program policies and guidelines for continuing services. When available, funding is used for participant financial assistance in the form of rent deposits and last month's rent, rent payments, utility deposits and utility arrears, utility payments, and application fees. The SAMHSA Grant to Benefit Homeless Individuals (GBHI) provides Horizon with the resources to offer outreach and engagement, screening and same-day assessment, treatment, case management, peer recovery support, and location of permanent housing, among other specialty services to adolescents and their families who are experiencing homelessness.

SAFE offers the following free and confidential services for domestic and sexual violence victims and their children who are in imminent danger: 24 hour hotline and access to safety and services, crisis intervention and safety planning, emergency transportation, 24-hour residential shelter and/or temporary accommodations, individual and peer group supportive counseling, coordination of services, advocacy and accompaniment within community systems, information and referral to community resources, community education/public awareness, children's services (including services to child abuse victims, children's groups and child care as available), emergency assistance with basic needs (ex. food, supplies, clothing) as available.

A short-term facility for families in crisis, including counseling and case management, tutoring for school-age children, resources to assist families facing chronic dependencies or who lack hope.

Provides 6 months of transition period for Veterans to become accustomed to community living. Referrals are made and liaison provided for all community services deemed appropriate for the individual client. Offers clinical and residential support, skills training, job readiness, money management, vocational counseling, and relapse prevention for veterans recovering from substance abuse.

Homeless adults can get showers, sandwiches, coffee, and other snacks. Provide phones access for the purpose of seeking employment and establishing services with other agencies and have regular outreach from partner agencies in our private back office. Clients can meet with our Homeless Advocate for linkage to additional resources and assessment using the community standard assessment tool. We have many other community organizations conducting outreach on a regular basis at our Day Center.

The Community Resource and Referral Center links Veterans and their families to diverse community partners aimed at ending homelessness and promoting community reintegration and independence. CRRC provides services to assist Veterans which include a computer lab ,laundry, showers, social work services and a host of community services.

David's Place offer showers, laundry and locker facilities, phone and voice mail services, and a mailing address for those accessing our services. David's Place is an alternative for chronically homeless adults.

Offers day services and soup kitchen for men and women. Services include transportation, employment counseling/services, substance abuse counseling, phone, birth certificates, referrals for community resources, clothing vouchers, laundry and meals.

Provides temporary housing for families to transition from poverty and homelessness to financial stability and permanent housing. Residents contribute portion of their income toward rent and toward debt repayment or savings, and can stay in the program for up to two years. Includes support services such as case management, job counseling, skills training, job placement assistance, credit counseling, debt repayment and savings initiatives, substance abuse counseling, domestic abuse counseling, ESL instruction, and life skills training. Offers Virginia Individual Development Accounts, a special savings program for purchasing a home, starting a business or going back to school, to clients. For every dollar participants save in a designated account, VIDA matches with two more dollars.

Provides shelter and day services for men who are homeless.

The Young Mothers Program provides housing, counseling and training to homeless young women, age 16 to 24, who are pregnant or have young children, and support services for minors who are pregnant or parenting. With an emphasis on parenting, education, job readiness and self-sufficiency, our graduates are able to support themselves and their children when they leave the program.

The VA Homeless Solutions Program provides funds and/or case management for diversion or payment of delinquent rent, security deposit assistance, rapid re-housing or shelter for low- and moderate-income households who are homeless or at imminent danger of becoming homeless. It also provides assistance for those who are chronically homeless through the PSH program. Housing counseling is a strong component to facilitate a long-term goal of financial independence. The program also links callers to programs that best suits their needs.

A 90-bed emergency shelter for families and individuals. Shelter guests stay an average of 36 days, and during that time, work with a case manager who helps connect them with the right tools, knowledge and resources for lasting well-being and self-sufficiency.

The Homeless Prevention Program (HPP) provides temporary rental assistance to low-income households at imminent risk of homelessness. Security deposit and temporary rental assistance can be granted to homeless families and individuals who have found permanent housing.

Provides emergency shelter and support services to victims of emotional, physical and sexual violence and their children. New Directions Center is a non-profit community organization which provides crisis intervention, emergency housing, food, clothing and transportation to women, children and men impacted by emotional, physical and sexual violence. Also offers a variety of groups and programs for shelter residents & for men, women and children in the community affected by emotional, physical and sexual violence. The Housing Resource Center (HRC) in Petersburg is the coordinated entry point for households in the Tri-Cities area. If you are facing a housing crisis in the Tri-Cities area, call the HRC at 804-722-1181. All callers are encouraged to leave a message with contact information. Calls will be returned as soon as possible. Please note that the HRC does not provide emergency shelter and is not able to provide immediate connection to housing.

Provides permanent supportive housing and case manage services for chronically homeless individuals. Participants contribute 30% of their income for rent. Participants pay off debt or save approximately 5% of their income. Bus Line: CUE, Metrobus.

Provides crisis intervention services to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. Provides legal advocacy, emergency food, transportation, personal supplies, clothing, and children's toys and games to clients. Provides support services to families and relatives of their clients.
