Summer Food Service Programs
CVACL's Education and Nutrition Sites provide hot, nutritionally balanced meals for older adults in a local group setting. Meetings include educational presentations and discussions, health screenings, adapted exercise sessions, recreational activities, artistic and cultural programming, and social events. Van transportation is provided for participants needing assistance traveling to and from the site or its events, as well as for occasional group trips to grocery stores, pharmacies, and local shopping. As part of CVACL's "wraparound" services, each site member is assigned a Care Manager to provide needs assessments, referrals, and follow-up.
The Aging and Disability Services Division has an array of programs that can help seniors address nutrition needs.
Provides emergency shelter, food, clothing and spiritual guidance for the homeless. Also, it provides food, clothing and other necessities to needy persons in the community. The Mission provides 3 meals daily every day of the year. It also provides community outreach to non-residents of the shelter and offers services to disaster victims. It provides daily shelter for transients and temporary long-term shelter for residents. Also provides help with utilities and assistance with holiday food for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Provides afternoon meals and snacks for under-privileged school-aged children in a safe learning environment. Also offers nutrition education and enrichment activities such as tutoring and mentoring.
Provides transportation to a center where meals and socialization are provided to area residents aged 60 and older in the City of Fredericksburg and the 4 surrounding counties.

Through its Friendship Cafes, Piedmont Senior Resources provides one nutritious meal a week to senior citizens in a group setting who are not able to obtain a well-balanced diet, due to physical, social, or financial limitations. In conjunction with the meal, weekly activities and services are provided in a group setting at a local community or senior citizen center.

Offers health and wellness programs, blood pressure screening, nutritional education programs, bloodmobiles, arts and humanities programs, retired and senior volunteer program, AARP Covington-Alleghany County Chapter #1702, AARP income tax assistance, LOA - Area Agency on Aging Diner's Club program (Tuesday and Thursday), Meals-on-Wheels program, line dancing, dances, appreciation socials, Older Americans Month Open House, advance crafts for men and women, Covington Senior Center Newsletter and Calendar of Events, covered dish luncheons, duplicate bridge club, transportation, shopping and much more.
