Assists elderly and/or disabled adults who are unable to care for themselves without assistance. The Companion Services program supports the philosophy that an individual should be empowered to maintain independence in the community as long as possible. Home-based care minimizes institutionalization of elderly and disabled residents. Individuals can remain on the Department's caseload for many years, some individuals are served well into their nineties. The improvement in the quality of life and the low cost of the service are a win/win for individuals and the community.
