Description
As required by federal and state regulations, Harrisonburg City Public Schools actively seeks to identify, locate, and evaluate those children residing in Harrisonburg City from birth to age 21, who need special education and related services. The VDOE defines special education as specially designed instruction, at no cost to the parent(s), to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability, including instruction conducted in a classroom, in the home, in hospitals, in institutions, and in other settings. VDOE regulations define a child with a disability as a child with a developmental delay, an intellectual disability, a hearing impairment, deafness, a speech or language impairment, a visual impairment (including blindness), an emotional disability, an orthopedic impairment, autism, a traumatic brain injury, other health impairment, a specific learning disability, deaf-blindness, or multiple disabilities who, by reason thereof, needs special education and related services.
