Who is entitled to obtain records- next of kin/immediate family which includes mother, father, husband, wife, child, brother, sister with valid ID. Newborn babies and children will not have ID; therefore, the parent’s ID is required.

Description

Provides records for deaths filed at the health department in the country or city in which the death occurred, not the country or city in which the person lived. Certified copies can be obtained only by a relative of the deceased or by a representative of a funeral home. The Peninsula Health District has death records on file from 1980 to the present for deaths occurring in Newport News, Williamsburg, Poquoson, James City County and York County. Copies of DEATH records prior to 1980 and all BIRTH records are filed in Richmond and can be obtained by sending the completed request form to the following address: Office of Vital Records P.O.
